That's it from Antigua as Falcons soar late - That is it from this one as Antigua & Barbuda Falcons win it by 5-wickets on the back of a Shadab Khan special. Action continues in CPL 2026 with the next game, Match 15 between Antigua & Barbuda Falcons and Guyana Amazon Warriors, scheduled for 11 pm GMT on 23rd August. Cheers for now.
Victorious skipper of ABF - Moeen Ali shares his excitement over the crucial victory, acknowledging that the opposition made it difficult but credits the decision to play an extra batter for their success in the last two games. Reflecting on conceding 73 runs during the Powerplay, Ali stresses the importance of remaining calm against brilliant players. He notes that taking key wickets, particularly Nicholas Pooran's, is always vital in T20 cricket to drag the scoring rate back after a tough start, while reinforcing his goal to turn their home ground into a fortress that is tough for visiting teams to play in.
Losing skipper of the TKR - Nicholas Pooran acknowledges that losing their way in the middle overs with the bat cost them the game, leaving them 10 to 15 runs short. While he praises his bowlers for executing well under pressure, he takes personal responsibility for getting out at a crucial moment and gives credit to Shadab Khan's strong opening spell. Pooran emphasizes the need for better situational awareness and execution within their batting partnerships, expressing hope that the team can correct these mistakes in the upcoming matches.
POTM - Shadab Khan gets the award for scoring a match-winning 52 off 20 balls and having bowling figures of 4-1-8-1. Shadab Khan expresses gratitude to the Antigua crowd for creating an energetic atmosphere, stating it feels special to bring happiness to local cricket legends. Reflecting on his performance, he notes the challenge of bowling amidst heavy dew and highlights his crucial finishing role with the bat. Khan praises his batting partner for providing confidence against the wind and looks forward to maintaining momentum against Guyana, urging fans to attend the next match.
Presentation party ...
Earlier - The Trinbago Knight Riders posted a below-par score of 165/6 after a dramatic mid-innings collapse against the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons. Opting to bowl first, the Falcons endured a tough Powerplay as Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran took charge, with Pooran blasting a ferocious 43 off just 17 balls to drive the score to 84/1. However, the momentum completely shifted when Joshua James dismissed Pooran, triggering a collapse that saw the Knight Riders slip to 96/4. Tight bowling from Rahkeem Cornwall, James, and Shadab Khan choked the middle order, forcing Kieron Pollard into a sluggish 9 off 16 balls. Late cameos from Sunil Narine and Terrance Hinds pushed the total past 160, but the disciplined Falcons bowling unit firmly held the upper hand at the innings break.
Shadab special - The match turned on its head when Shadab Khan walked in and unleashed an absolute blinder of a knock to rescue the Falcons. While Terrance Hinds claimed two wickets, and Usman Tariq and Kieron Pollard picked up one apiece, the TKR bowlers were carted all around the park in the death overs after a brilliant opening 14 overs. Shadab smashed an unbeaten, match-winning 52 off just 20 balls and struck the winning runs, sealing a sensational 5-wicket victory with 9 balls to spare.
TKR's middle-phase stranglehold - Trinbago Knight Riders maintained their clinical discipline through the middle phase of the game, consistently building pressure on the Falcons' batting lineup. Kusal Perera and Amir Jangoo both fought hard to compile vital contributions in the 30s, but the TKR bowling attack kept things so tight that the match firmly tilted in their favour. Entering the final stretch of the innings, the equation looked daunting for the Falcons, who were left requiring a massive 74 runs off the final 6 overs.
Falcons power through early tremors - Chasing 166, the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons started on the front foot as Rahkeem Cornwall took Sunil Narine down for 14 runs in the opening over. However, the momentum vanished completely once Cornwall departed, making run-scoring incredibly difficult for the Falcons. The Trinbago Knight Riders capitalised on the breakthrough, choking the scoring rate to restrict the chasing side to just 19 runs over the next five overs and ending the Powerplay at 33/1.
SIX! SHADAB KHAN WINS IT FOR ABF! Pitched-up delivery, around off, Shadab Khan hangs onto his back foot, gets behind the line of the ball and lofts this up and over the fence down the ground, in front of the sight screen for a massive six to wrap the game. Antigua & Barbuda Falcons win by 5 wickets.
On a length, around off, Shadab pushes this back to the bowler.
SIX! Shadab Khan, you beauty... Back of a length, on middle and off, Shadab Khan backs away and smashes this up and over the left of the fielder at long off for a huge six.
WIDE! Slower one, full and wide down the leg side, Shadab looks for the paddle but misses. Wided.
Just 11 needed off the last 12 balls.
Pollard bowls a slower short one, around off, Shadab pulls this from the bottom of his bat towards the deep mid-wicket region for one.
Got to feel for the young Nathan as he walks off to his field position with his head and shoulders down. Good to see Terrance Hinds giving a pat on the back to the youngster just to keep his spirits high. Kieron Pollard will complete the over.
NO BALL! OUCH... That's bound to hurt the batter here. Beamer around chest high, to the left-hander, Kusal swings and gets it away off his gloves to the left of square leg for a single. The umpire straightaway gives a No Ball. This is also the second dangerous beamer by Nathan and he will be removed from the attack for the rest of the game.
FOUR! Kusal joins the party too and this over has brought ABF in pole position now. Good length, on the pads, Kusal swivels and flicks this over the fielder at short fine leg for a boundary. Young Nathan Edward is feeling the heat and this will serve as a learning curve for the youngster.
Good length, on middle and off, Shadab Khan slogs this in front of deep mid-wicket for a single.
38 needed off the last 18 balls has become 19 needed off 15 now.
SIX! HAT-TRICK OF SIXES BY SHADAB! Full toss, on middle and leg, Shadab Khan steps across the stumps, bowls a full toss and Shadab flicks this out of the park towards the deep square leg region for a huge six.
SIX! 13 runs off the first two balls as Shadab hits two sixes on either side of a wide in the 18th over. Pitched-up delivery, wide of off, Shadab Khan gets right bhind the line of the ball and smashes this up and over the fence down the ground for a biggie towards the sight screen.
WIDE! On a length, way too wide of the tramline on off. Shadab leaves it. Wided.
SIX! JUST WOW... Shadab has smoked this out of the park. Full and wide of off, Shadab steps a long way across the stumps, collapses his back knee and sweeps this deep into the crowd towards the deep mid-wicket region for a huge six to start the over. Puts pressure straightaway on Nathan Edward.
Another over in double digits for ABF as they get 11 runs off it. 38 needed off the last 3 overs for ABF now at 12.67 runs per over.
Too full, around off, Shadab smashes this through mid off for a single.
Fired around off, Kusal Perera cuts this through point for a single here.
SIX! Now this will make things interesting as Kusal smashes Usman over the fence for a six. Short of a length, on middle and off, Kusal Perera goes onto his back foot and pulls this over the deep square leg fence for a massive six.
Fuller on the pads, Shadab Khan sweeps this to the deep backward square leg region for a single.
Too full, around off, Kusal Perera smashes this to the bowler and it hits the foot of Usman and rolls to mid off for a single.
