Australia announce ODI, T20I squads for India series; Faulkner makes a come back

New Delhi, Aug 18: Cricket Australia announced the one-day and twenty20 squads for the upcoming limited-overs series against India, starting September 17.

Australia will play 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is in the bilateral series in India. Chennai, Bengaluru, Nagpur, Indore and Kolkata will host the five ODIs.

The Steve Smith-led side will then lock horns with Virat Kohli and Company for a 3 T20I series. These matches will be held at Hyderabad, Ranchi and Guwahati.

The Aussies have picked up all-rounder James Faulkner for the India tour. Speedster Nathan Coulter-Nile has also been recalled to the squad. All-rounders Ashton Agar and Hilton Cartwright have also been inducted into the limited-overs squad.

Faulkner, player of the match in the 2015 World Cup final, was snubbed by the selectors for the 2017 Champions Trophy but his experience of the sub-continental conditions has helped him earn a recall.

Coulter-Nile, who had a good outing in the IPL 10 for Kolkata Knight Riders, has been inducted in the squad.

However, as many as five players who were part of the Champions Trophy squad have been dropped by the selectors. All-rounder Moises Henriques, Chris Lynn, John Hastings, James Pattinson and Mitchell Starc, are the five omissions from the squad.

Pacers Jason Behrendorff and Kane Richardson have been selected, while Josh Hazlewood has not been included for the T20 series. All-rounder Dan Christian, who had a good IPL season this year, and wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine have both been named in the T20 squad. Coulter-Nile has also been named for the T20 leg.

"Nathan brings raw pace to the side with good variation," selector Trevor Hohns said of Coulter-Nile's selection.

"It is great to see him back from injury and we are hopeful he will have a big impact in this series.

"James Faulkner is a solid one-day campaigner and is very familiar with subcontinent conditions, coming off a very good tour of Sri Lanka last year. We hope that he will take his chance in returning to the one-day side.

"Hilton is an aggressive striker of the ball and we think his game will be well suited to the transition to short-form cricket," Hohns added further.

Australia ODI squad: Steve Smith (C), David Warner (VC), Ashton Agar, Hilton Cartwright, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Patrick Cummins, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (WK), Adam Zampa.
