New Delhi, October 25: Aggressive Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell created a world record by slamming the fastest century in the history of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup.
The right-handed swashbuckler from Australia slammed an ODI century off just 40 deliveries against the Netherlands on Wednesday (October 25) at Arun Jaitley Stadium and created a massive record.

The all-rounder, who is known as the Big Show, broke the record of South Africa batter Aiden Markram's record created at this very venue against Sri Lanka. Markram took 49 deliveries to get to his century but Maxwell took nine balls less than the Aussie and to achieve a big record.
Maxwell - who walked into the middle at number four - looked set from the word go and attacked Dutch bowlers at will. His trademark switch-hits and reverse sweeps were on full display.
Batting on 75* off 35 deliveries, Maxwell unleashed the beast mode against Bas de Leede in the 49th over as he smashed two boundaries and three maximums on the first five deliveries to get to his third ODI century.
Soon after touching the triple-figures, Maxwell broke into frantic celebration and dedicated his ton to his newborn child. It was also the fourth-quickest ODI ton in world cricket after AB de Villiers (31 balls), Corey Anderson (36 balls), and Shahid Afridi (37 balls).
After putting up carnage against Netherlands bowlers in the last powerplay, Maxwell was dismissed for 106 off 44 balls while making an attempt to take his team past the 400-run mark. Such was the monstrosity of his knock that Maxwell's innings were laced with nine boundaries and eight sixes.
In the last ten overs, the Aussies scored 131 runs for the loss of three wickets, courtesy of Maxwell's big hittings. He shared a stand of 104 runs with Pat Cummins for the seventh wicket. Australia ended up posting a mammoth 399 for the loss of eight wickets after electing to bat first, setting a target of 400 for the Dutch to chase.
Reacting to his imperious knock, Maxwell said, "Feels pretty good. I've been pretty cooked all day. Probably just cleared my head a bit to just go out and play. The situation when Davey and Greeny got out, I had to take it deep a little bit. Patty was good as well. Even if they are banging it into the wicket, I feel I have enough time to go after it."
