Axar Patel has created a new record for India in the just concluded Test series against Australia.
Axar Patel played all four Tests in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy where India clinched the series 2-1. The left-arm spinner mainly played as a batter in the series as he had a limited opportunity with the ball.
But despite the limited bowling opportunities, Axar Patel managed to achieve a huge record on the final day of the 4th Test at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Patel became the fastest Indian bowler to pick up 50 Test wickets, in terms of the number of balls bowled.
Axar Patel picked up Travis Head's wicket on the final day and thus achieved the record, surpassing India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. He beat Bumrah by 260 balls as the left-arm spinner completed his 50 wickets in 2,205 balls, while Bumrah took 2,465 balls to reach the milestone.
1. Axar Patel - 2,205 balls
2. Jasprit Bumrah - 2,465 balls
3. Karsan Ghavri - 2,534 balls
4. Ravichandran Ashwin - 2,597 balls
In the BGT, Axar bowled only 86 overs across four Tests, and picked up 3 wickets in total. Out of those 86 overs, he bowled 47 overs only in the fourth Test.
Axar scored 264 runs in the Test series and was the second-highest run-scorer for India with the bat. He notched up three half-centuries in the series. The all-rounder scored a fantastic 84 in the first match in Nagpur, and followed that up with 74 runs in Delhi and 79 in Ahmedabad.

India managed a draw in Ahmedabad and thus have qualified for WTC 2023 Final. They will take on Australia in the WTC final as the match is supposed to be played at the Oval in London from June 7.
