  • Bangladesh won by nine wickets with 209 balls remaining in their last men’s ODI against New Zealand, snapping a 12-game losing run against them in the format and earning their first win against the Black Caps since June 2017.
  • This will be the third meeting between Bangladesh and New Zealand at the ICC Champions Trophy with the teams splitting wins across their two previous meetings; Bangladesh earning a 5-wicket win in 2017 and New Zealand winning by 167 runs in 2002.
  • Bangladesh have batted first and lost each of their last five men’s ODIs including a six-wicket defeat to India in their opening game of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, while New Zealand are on a four-game winning run in the format which is their best streak since a six-game stretch from September to October 2023.
  • Bangladesh have won only two of their 12 games at the ICC Champions Trophy, but have managed to pick up one win at each of their last two appearances at the tournament (2017, 2006); in fact, their 17% win rate at the tournament is by far the lowest of any team (min. 10 games).
  • No team has lost more games at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan in men’s ODIs than New Zealand (W0 L5), while Bangladesh were defeated in their only previous fixture at the venue (vs Pakistan, September 2003).
  • New Zealand will be looking to open an ICC Champions Trophy campaign with back-to-back wins for just the second time ever and the first time since they won all three of their games at the tournament in 2000.
  • Bangladesh duo Mehidy Hasan (37) and Soumya Sarkar (35) have scored more runs via cut shots than any other players from Bangladesh or New Zealand in men’s ODIs since the beginning of 2024, while Kane Williamson (29) is the only New Zealand player to score 20+ runs via this shot.
  • Kane Williamson has an ODI batting average of 52.5 outside New Zealand, which is the highest of any Black Caps batter to feature in at least 10 innings outside their home country; he has a batting average of 65 in Pakistan despite being dismissed for just one run in New Zealand’s opening game of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
  • Tawhid Hridoy (Bangladesh) will be looking to score 50+ runs in back-to-back ODI innings for the second time in his career after scoring a career-best 100 runs against India in Bangladesh’s opening game of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy; though, his average of 16 against New Zealand is his second lowest against any team (4.5 vs Pakistan).
  • Glenn Phillips (New Zealand) is four away from reaching 1,000 runs scored in ODIs and has scored 215 runs across his last four innings while being dismissed only once in that frame; this will be just the second time he faces Bangladesh in the format after logging an unbeaten 16 against them in October 2023.
