Welcome back for Bangladesh's reply with the bat. The players of Netherlands Women huddle up near the ropes before scattering across the park. Their body language looks very positive as they spring out to take their spots on the field. Now then, Juairiya Ferdous walks along with Dilara Akter to open for Bangladesh Women. And it will be Iris Zwilling who bowls the first over. There's no slip in place for Ferdous, who is ready to face the first ball. Off we go again...

    ... THE RUN CHASE ...

  • .

A tough challenge ahead - Indeed, for Bangladesh. While 140 hardly looks like a daunting target to chase, Bangladesh Women will need to pull off their highest successful run chase in T20 World Cup history to get there. In fact, they have chased 125 or more on just four occasions in the shortest format. So it is not going to be an easy task for them. The Netherlands Women, meanwhile, will be eager to strike early and pile on the pressure to turn this into a real contest. Can they make their T20 World Cup debut special and historic? We shall find out. The run chase is on the other side very shortly.

  • .

The captain led from the front - At 76/5 and crawling along at barely a run a ball, the Netherlands badly needed a rescue act. The de Leede name has long carried weight in Dutch cricket, and captain Babette de Leede, cousin of Bas de Leede from the men's team, stepped up to honour it. Fluency did not come easy for her either at first, but with the top order in ruins, the job of steadying the ship fell on the captain alone. Partners kept falling away around her, leaving her isolated for long periods, yet she grew steadily into her innings, anchoring one end and keeping the scoreboard ticking over. She got off to a fifty, but was run out and couldn't see through. However, precious contributions by the likes of Silver Siegers and Iris Zwilling at the backend ensured that they posted a decent total in the end.

  • .

Disciplined with the ball in the first half - The Netherlands made a jittery start, losing both openers inside the Powerplay and slipping to 48/3 once Sterre Kalis, one of their key batters, also fell. Bangladesh Women were nearly flawless with their execution, breaking partnerships at regular intervals and giving the opposition no room to hit back. Marufa Akter and Ritu Moni were tight as a drum through their spells, with the rest of the bowling unit chipping in just as effectively, while Rabeya Khan got to the milestone of completing 50 T20I wickets and was miserly too.

  • .

The Dutch finish strong - A very decent finish from Netherlands Women in the last couple of overs while batting first on their T20 World Cup debut. Surely, they will be delighted as they head back into the dressing room and their efforts are applauded by the Dutch faithful who have turned up in decent numbers. Bangladesh, on the other hand, were pretty sloppy towards the backend and would feel that they gave away a few extra runs.

  • 19.6

A bye sneaked in. Netherlands Women finish on 139/8. Pushes the length up now, outside off. Silver Siegers steps out and tries to go down the ground but fails to lay any bat on it. The ball goes through to the keeper and Iris Zwilling is quick enough to make her ground at the batting end. 12 runs off the final over.

  • 19.5

FOUR! Scythed away! Bowled on a length by Marufa, outside off. Silver Siegers dances down the track and throws her hands at the ball. She flays it over the point fielder and picks up a boundary. Oh, Silver Siegers bumps into Marufa Akter, with the former having her eyes on where the ball went. A hand of apology straight away from Silver.

  • 19.4

Fuller now, on off, Iris slams it wide of extra cover for one more.

  • 19.3

FOUR! Nicely done! The length is dragged back a bit by Akter, outside off. Iris Zwilling shuffles across the stumps to access the area behind square on the leg side. She picks it wide of backward square leg for a boundary.

  • 19.2

Keeps it nice and full, on off. Iris has a swing at it and she connects this time. She lofts it back over the bowler's head. The batters take on the arm of Shorna Akter as they commit themselves to the second run. Akter's throw is a bit away from the bowler and that allows Siegers to get home with the dive.

  • 19.1

A swing and a miss! Full and outside off, Iris Zwilling gets low and swings to go down the ground but connects with thin air.

  • .

Marufa Akter (3-0-20-2) will wrap it up in the first innings.

  • 18.6

Flighted delivery, on middle. Iris Zwilling clears her front leg and swings across the line. That sounded sweet, but Iris does not get the desired distance. It drops well in front of deep mid-wicket. Just a single.

  • 18.5

A bit of mix-up but they get through. Shorter and on off, Silver Siegers pushes away from her body and it balloons to backward point, where Fariha Trisna gathers it on the bounce. Indecision on her part whether to throw it towards the keeper or at the bowling end and that allows Siegers to get through.

  • 18.4

Keeps it full and wide on off, quicker through the air. Silver Siegers tries to drag the sweep but fails to connect.

  • 18.3

Following the batter, on a length. Iris Zwilling turns it away to deep square leg for another single.

  • 18.2

Slows it down but the length stays full, on off. Siegers swings at it but it goes off an inside edge through square leg for one more run.

  • 18.1

Full and quick, outside off. Iris hangs low and swats it away to long on for a run.

  • .

Last 2 overs left. Rabeya Khan (3-0-21-1) will bowl the penultimate over. Can the Dutch get around 135-140?

  • 17.6

Shouts of 'catch' but it still drops well short. Sanjida Akter Meghla offers flight, on a length, on middle. Iris Zwilling steps out in her bid to go down the ground. She mistimes it well in front of long on for just a single.

  • 17.5

A bit of air given, outside off, on a length. Silver Siegers hangs low and drags the sweep towards deep mid-wicket for one more.

  • 17.4

Tossed up now, on middle. This is hit firmly to long on. They cross.

  • 17.3

Drifting onto the pads, on the fuller side. Silver wrists it in front of square on the leg side and gets to the other end.

  • 17.2

Floated up, full and on off. Silver Siegers makes room and launches it back over the bowler's head. The ball does not have enough legs to reach the fence and it is cut off. Two runs taken.

  • .

113/5 becomes 116/8 for the Netherlands and a total of 140, which looked very much realistic with Babette battling out, now seems out of sight. Silver Siegers is in at number 10.

  • 17.1
Caroline de Lange b Sanjida Akter Meghla 1 (4)

OUT! CASTLED! Sliding on with the arm, a bit on the shorter side, on middle. Caroline de Lange rocks back and shapes up to play more of the short-arm jab. The ball sneaks under the blade and shatters the stumps. Sanjida Akter Meghla has her first wicket. Netherlands Women are now 116/8.

  • 16.6

At the sticks, on a nagging length. Caroline de Lange whips it in front of square on the leg side for a single.

  • 16.5

On a length, on off, Caroline makes room and punches it to cover.

  • 16.4

Serves it full, around off. Caroline de Lange pushes out in front and it is squirted off the outer half to point.

  • .

  • .

The skipper of Bangladesh Women - Nigar Sultana is pleased with the way her side executed their plans. She says the side started really well with the ball, singling out Marufa Akter for delivering exactly what was expected of her. She also praises the rest of the bowling unit, particularly the spinners, and feels they achieved what they had set out to do in the first innings. On the chase, Nigar highlights the positive intent shown by Juairiya Ferdous, noting that the opener looked like she was enjoying herself in the middle, while Dilara Akter provided good support. She admits there was a bit of drama during the chase, but is delighted that Sharmin Akhter and Shorna Akter kept their composure to take the team over the line.

  • .

The captain of Netherlands Women - Babette de Leede admits that they weren't clinical in all departments. Mentions that they really didn't get going with the bat and lost too many wickets on the way. Adds that Bangladesh got off to a flier in the chase, with a few dropped catches not helping their cause either. On the positives, she points to their spinners bowling really well to get them back into the game, adding that they stayed in it till the last over and take away plenty of learning from the experience overall.

  • .

Time to hear from the captains...

  • .

Earlier in the game - After Bangladesh elected to bowl first, they struck at regular intervals, but Dutch skipper Babette de Leede held the innings together for her side. Babette fell at a crucial juncture, but despite her dismissal, the Netherlands found a way to reach 139. The late flourish with the bat gave them a bit of momentum and belief heading into their bowling effort, even if the total was slightly below what they would have ideally wanted.

  • .

A wobble, but no derailment - Chasing 140, Bangladesh were given the perfect platform by Juairiya Ferdous, whose positive approach at the top ensured they got off to a solid start. There was a brief wobble in the middle overs as they slipped from 67/0 to 85/4, allowing the Netherlands a way back into the contest. However, the early work done by Ferdous meant the task at hand was never overly daunting. It became a case of batting sensibly, and Bangladesh found calm heads in Shorna Akter and Sharmin Akhter. The pair ensured there were no further hiccups with an unbeaten 56-run stand to steer their side home.

  • .

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Juairiya Ferdous has been given the award for her entertaining knock of 50 runs from 33 balls. Ferdous, on her approach, mentions that it's her first World Cup match and mentions that she saw the pitch was flat. And with the target being 140, they wanted to use the Powerplay fully as openers. About how she feels, Ferdous takes her time and says she cannot put into words how she is feeling right now and says it's a huge achievement for her. Adds that all the players in the squad have supported her. Ends by saying that she will continue to give her best in the next games.

  • .

Bangladesh get over the line - The Tigeresses are up and running in the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup. They have pulled off their highest successful run chase in the history of the tournament and have marked their first-ever international appearance in England with a memorable victory. It was a historic day for the Netherlands, who played their maiden game in the tournament. While the result did not go their way, they will take plenty of heart from the fight they showed with the ball.

  • 19.1

FOUR! That will do it. Bangladesh Women win by 6 wickets. This is their third-highest successful run chase in Women's T20Is, as per the on-air commentators and their highest in the T20 World Cups. A special moment indeed for them and their joy knows no bounds. Tough luck for the Dutch women, who gave it their all but have to settle for a defeat in their maiden World Cup outing. Coming to the ball, Iris bowls it fuller and outside off. Shorna Akter get the front leg out of her way and smashes it over the mid off fielder for a boundary to get the job done for her team.

  • .

Down to the final over. The Dutch are in need of something really special, with Bangladesh needing 3 runs from 6 balls. Iris Zwilling to bowl.

  • 18.7

Looped up on a fuller length, outside off. Akhter stretches out and works it to cover.

  • 18.6

Flatter on the leg stump, Sharmin Akhter crouches a bit and paddles it off the top edge through the vacant short fine leg region. They hustle back for the second as the deep square leg fielder has to cover a lot of ground to her right. Just 3 needed now from 7 balls.

  • 18.5

Floated fuller on the stumps, Sharmin Akhter gets inside the line and sweeps it to the deep fine leg region for a couple of runs. That brings up the 50-run partnership between this pair.

  • 18.4

Length ball that turns away from off. Sharmin hangs back and punches it to mid off. She wants a single but is rightly sent back by her partner.

  • 18.3

FOUR! Into single figures now. Fuller and outside off. Sharmin Akhter springs out of the crease and thumps it powerfully, finding the gap in the cover region for a cracking boundary. 7 needed from 10 balls.

  • 18.2

A little quicker on a shorter length, outside off. Sharmin Akhter is beaten all ends up on the attempted cut shot.

  • 18.1

WIDE! Fired far outside off, on a length. Akhter leaves as the ball goes beyond the tramline.

  • 17.7

Fuller in length, on off, Akhter gets the front leg out of the way and bludgeons it down to long on for a single. Just 12 needed from the last 2 overs .

  • 17.6

Pace on now, fuller and outside off. Sharmin Akhter flashes but fails to connect.

  • 17.5

Wide! Floated up, well wide on off, Shorna Akter lets it go.

  • 17.4

Bangladesh can breathe easy. Down leg by Iris, on a length. Sharmin Akhter shapes up to tickle it fine but misses. The ball seems to have grazed something before it went behind. A good take by Babette de Leede by staying low and moving to her left. The Dutch seemed to have heard something, and they take the review. However, there was no bat, confirmed by the UltraEdge.

  • .

Strangled down leg? Not given by the umpire and Babette de Leede has taken the review. There was a noise as the ball went through to the keeper. The UltraEdge confirms that there is no bat involved.

  • 17.3

Fractionally fuller and outside off, Sharmin Akhter steers it to deep cover and they hustle back for the second run. The throw is a bit slow from the deep towards the keeper and that allows Sharmin to get back home safely.

  • 17.2

A glorious hit but just for a single. Fuller and straighter on the stumps. Shorna Akter backs away to make room for her and blasts it down the ground. The umpire is forced to duck under it and does so in time. The ball rolls to the left of long on for a single.

  • 17.1

Back of a length, on the pads. Shorna Akter gets a bit across and whips it to deep backward square leg for a couple of runs. 17 needed from 17 balls now.

  • .

Iris Zwilling (2-0-13-0) has been brought back. Babette de Leede is standing up to the stumps for the right-arm medium pacer.

  • 16.6

BEAUTY! Drifts in and spins away from off, on a length. Sharmin Akhter is caught in the crease, hanging her bat loosely and is beaten on the outside edge. Bangladesh require 19 off 18.

  • 16.5

FOUR! Pierces the gap nicely! Short ball outside off, Sharmin backs away to cut it late, beating the backward point fielder to her left for a boundary. That will ease the nerves massively in the Bangladesh camp.

  • 16.4

In the air... lands safely! Pitched fuller on the stumps, Akter lofts it over mid on for a single as the long on fielder collects it on the bounce.

  • 16.3

BEATEN! Slower loopy short ball, outside off. Shorna Akter goes for a hard cut off the back foot, only to miss out.
