BCCI Contracts 2024: Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan left out of Central Contract

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released its updated central contracts for the 2023-24 cricket season.

All four players retained their Grade A+ contract from last season. India captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are at the top of the chart for this season's contracts.

A total of 30 players have been brought under the central contract, which is four more than last season. But amid this, two Indian players, who were in the World Cup 2023 squad, have missed out on central contracts.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have been left out of the central contracts after the current rumours. The duo said to have angered the BCCI for their antics, which included non-participation in the Ranji Trophy in recent times.

Kishan, who has been on a break for mental health issues, didn't play Ranji for Jharkhand and is recently playing in the DY Patil T20 Cup. Shreyas Iyer played in the first two Tests against England and then withdrew due to a back injury. But it is perceived that the batter was dropped after a horrendous run of form.

Iyer, who was included in the Grade B last year, has now been entirely omitted in the latest BCCI Contract for 2023-24 season. Ishan Kishan was also part of contract with a Grade C pay scale, and he will have to work hard to get back to the fray as well.

Iyer was excellent for India in the World Cup 2023 as he scored 530 runs in the tournament with two centuries to his name. Kishan played the first two matches of the tournament as well.

What is the future of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan?

Although there is a section pondering about the future of Ishant Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, that is not entirely the true thing. Both players can come into the Indian team in terms of their form and a central contract doesn't matter at all in that case.

Both Kishan and Iyer will have to focus and prioritise domestic cricket, as that has come as a clear-cut instruction from the board. It is to be seen how Iyer and Kishan perform in the upcoming IPL, as that will be crucial for the selection in the T20 World Cup in June.

In terms of playing in the Indian cricket team across all formats, the players will have to somehow modify and perhaps broaden their mentality. The BCCI won't tolerate any such antics and if they learn from their mistakes, the duo is good.
