BCCI not concerned over Mohammed Shami's private life: IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla

IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla while speaking on the tussle between Mohammed Shami and his wife said the BCCI is not concerned over the cricketer's private life.

BCCI not concerned over Mohammed Shamis private life: IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla

New Delhi, March 22: As the international career of India pacer Mohammed Shami hangs in balance after his wife accused him of match-fixing and perjury, senior BCCI functionary and chairperson of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajeev Shukla has claimed the board is awaiting the report from its anti-corruption unit.

The cricketer's estranged wife Hasin Jahan has been making serious allegations against the Bengal pacer and even lodged a police case against him. Jahan alleged that Shami had received money from a bookie named Mohammed Bhai with the help of a Pakistani girl Alishba in Dubai.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the BCCI ordered a probe against the Bengal pacer and even withheld his central contract for the time being.

Speaking about the issue, Shukla claimed that they are awaiting the report from the BCCI's ACU head, Neeraj Kumar on allegations against Shami.

"Our anti-corruption unit, headed by Neeraj Kumar, will investigate and give us a report. We are awaiting it. We are expecting the report shortly," said Shukla.

The IPL chairman further added that the board is only concerned about the match-fixing allegations against the UP-born speedster and not his private life.

"We are not concerned over his private matters. As soon as he (Kumar) gives the report we will decide. The investigation is still on. It's Neeraj Kumar's job to investigate it," he added.

The cricketer will be cleared to play for his IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils once the ACU finds him innocent in its investigation.

The board had earlier informed the Kolkata Police that India pacer stayed in Dubai for two days while returning from South Africa. The BCCI responded to the letter sent by Kolkata Police, who are investigating the Bengal pacer in connection with the serious charges framed by his wife.

Both Shami and Alishba have rejected the allegations made by Hasin Jahan.

Alishba, while speaking to a private news channel, cleared that she is just a fan of the Indian cricketer and junked the allegations of sexual relations with the pacer and being involved in match-fixing.

Alishba maintained that she came in contact with the speedster on social media after 2017 Champions Trophy and they became friends.
