CSK vs KKR: Will Mustafizur Rahman play against Kolkata today? Has Chennai pacer returned from Bangladesh?

CSK vs KKR: Mustafizur Rahman was badly missed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Chennai could not at all stop SRH from chasing down 166, and they ended up losing the match with six wickets and 11 balls to spare.

After CSK lost to Delhi Capitals (DC) in Vizag, Mustafizur Rahman was forced to fly back to Bangladesh to complete his US visa formalities formalities for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, the marquee ICC event will be jointly hosted by the USA and the West Indies from June 1, less than a week after IPL 2024 final on May 26.

Has Mustafizur Rahman returned from Bangladesh? Will Mustafizur Rahman play today (Monday, April 8) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk)? The CSK fans are eagerly searching for answers to these questions -- especially after the two consecutive defeats for the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team.

Will Mustafizur Rahman play today vs KKR?

If reports are to be believed, CSK fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Mustafizur Rahman is likely to be available for selection for the clash against KKR. The left-arm pacer joined the CSK squad on Sunday night.

"Regarding Fizz (Mustafizur), we’re still not sure yet. His getting back here is not really in our hands as he’s flown back to Bangladesh for his passport. So, let’s see what happens. But as a team, we have to prepare for these eventualities,” CSK bowling consultant Eric Simons said ahead of the match against KKR.

Will Matheesha Pathirana play today vs KKR?

Further, CSK's Sri Lanka star Matheesha Pathirana also missed the SRH game due to a niggle. His participation in the match against Kolkata is still uncertain. CSK are taking a conservative approach with the slinger, Simon confirmed.

“Regarding Pathirana, yes, it’s a long tournament. We wanted to be conservative with the decision surrounding him. So, whether he’ll play in the next match is up to the physios to decide.

“Our only concern is that it’s a long tournament. We just want to make sure that we don’t risk four games to make sure he plays one. So our decisions are based on that. But he’s coming along very nicely.” Simons said.

Mustafizur Rahman is currently the leading wicket-taker for Chennai Super Kings. He has picked seven wickets at an average of 15.14 and an economy rate of 8.83. Matheesha Pathirana has picked four wickets at an average of 15 and an economy rate of 7.50.
