New Delhi, May 31: With his exceptional power hittings and passion towards game, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli is making everyone his fan and taking strides towards greatness with every passing day.

The Delhi-lad entertained billions with the impressive display of batting in the year 2016 and set new records in Twenty20 history in the recently concluded ninth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).

If one looks at his journey in the IPL, the RCB batter has matured every passing season. In a span of nine seasons the right-handed middle order batter went on becoming a 'giant' from an 'aspiring youngster'.

Even RCB owner Vijay Mallya once said that he had no clue that Kohli would go on to become the world's best batsman when the RCB acquired him at the IPL U-19 draft in 2008.

He his is also one of the very few players to have played for a single franchise in all nine seasons of the cash-rich league.

But it was just a matter of luck that RCB got hold of Virat Kohli after India's U-19 skipper was rejected by Delhi Daredevils under IPL U-19 draft.

According to norms, it was mandatory for every franchise to select two Under-19 players ahead of the inaugural edition of the IPL.

Daredevils had the first pick and preferred pacer Pradeep Sangwan over Virat Kohli by spending $50,000 for the pacer. RCB then grabbed Virat for $30,000 and rest as they say is history.

Sangwan played for Delhi Daredevils for three succesive seasons but failed to make a mark, while young Kohli went on becoming a sensation in the world cricket. Playing under the guidance of AB de Villiers, Rahul Dravid, Chris Gayle and many others in the RCB only helped Kohli become better.

As a result, the 27-year-old is now getting compared to legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Viv Richards.

Thus, it could be said that Delhi Daredevils' loss became RCB's gain which played its 3rd IPL final while the former has never made it to the final.

It seems the blunder proved costly for the Daredevils.
