Delhi Premier League 2024: Full List Of Teams, International & IPL Stars Picked Up in DPL Players Draft

DPL 2024: The much-anticipated player draft for the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) saw Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Ayush Badoni, Anuj Rawat, and Harshit Rana emerge as the key picks of the day.

The event, held on Friday (August 2) in New Delhi, featured 270 cricketers from across Delhi, including national, IPL, and U19 players.

DPL 2024 Draft Top Highlights

Purani Dilli 6 secured the services of the explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and the experienced pacer Ishant Sharma. Complementing their star acquisitions, the team also roped in allrounder Lalit Yadav, fresh from his stint with the Delhi Capitals, and batting allrounder Shivam Sharma. Additionally, the franchise bagged 20-year-old opening batsman and off-spinner Arpit Rana, along with right-arm pacer Prince Yadav.

West Delhi Lions made their first draft pick with the crafty Mumbai Indians tweaker Hrithik Shokeen, followed by the fiery fast bowler Navdeep Saini. Rounding out their top five picks were middle-order batsman Dev Lakra, bowling allrounder Deepak Punia, and off-spinner Shivank Vashisht.

North Delhi Strikers prioritised pace bowling, opting for the lethal fast bowler Harshit Rana as their draft pick. Rana, who recently set the IPL ablaze with 19 wickets in 13 matches, is currently on his maiden tour with the Indian team.

The Strikers also acquired leg-spinner Suyash Sharma, a key player in the Kolkata Knight Riders' recent triumph, medium-pacer Pranshu Vijayran, former India U19 player Vaibhav Kandpal, and Kshitiz Sharma.

Central Delhi Kings began their draft with the addition of prodigious batsman and former India U19 skipper Yash Dhull, along with right-handed leg-spinner Prince Choudhary. Their subsequent picks included opening batsman Hiten Dalal, allrounder Jonty Sidhu, and wicketkeeper-batsman Lakshay Thareja.

East Delhi Riders secured hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batsman Anuj Rawat, who has regularly featured for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Pace bowler Simarjeet Singh was their second Category A acquisition. The Riders also bolstered their batting lineup with Himmat Singh, medium-pacer Himanshu Chauhan, and slow left-arm orthodox bowler Harsh Tyagi.

South Delhi Superstars commenced their draft with the acquisition of middle-order batsman Ayush Badoni, a regular fixture for the Lucknow Super Giants. They followed up with left-arm fast bowler Kuldip Yadav, 23-year-old Priyansh Arya, and batting allrounder Sumit Mathur.

In addition to the men's teams, the top four bidders in the men's franchise auction also secured women's teams comprising top female cricketers across the region. The women's draft saw ace Indian batting allrounder Shweta Sehrawat emerge as the South Delhi Superstars' top pick.

Top-order batter Priya Punia will play for East Delhi Riders while wicketkeeper Laxmi Yadav was drafted by Central Delhi Queens (Central Delhi Kings), and medium-pacer Soni Yadav went to North Delhi Strikers.

When & Where DPL 2024 Be Played?

The first edition of the Delhi Premier League is set to unfold from August 17 to September 8, 2024, with all matches taking place at the Shri Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The inaugural season of the T20 league will feature 40 matches, including 33 games in the men's category and seven in the women's category.
