St John's, July 12: There is no end to Denesh Ramdin's woes, after not picking him for the Test series against India a visibly miffed West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has sanctioned the wicketkeeper batsman following his Twitter rant last week.
In a series of tweets, last week, Ramdin hinted that he may not be picked up for the upcoming Test series against India and had expressed his dissatisfaction for being excluded from the squad.
The WICB said that actions of the former captain had been in 'contravention of their policy' and had moved to penalise the player. The release, however, did not state the nature of the sanction.
"This was in breach of the WICB policy and the terms of his retainer contract. As a consequence, Ramdin has since been sanctioned," the WICB said in a statement.
The 31-year-old, on July 7, took to Twitter to let his fans know that he had been dumped from the squad and blamed new chairman of selectors Courtney Browne for the decision.
Ramdin went on criticising Browne for claiming his batting average wasn't good enough.
"Man who's telling my average is bad with 25.87 but his is 16 telling me about batting and has never scored international hundred shameless," he wrote earlier in his twitter handle.
"Last 2 innings over 60 vs Australia down under but not good enough to play anymore," one of Ramdin's tweets said. India will play four Test matches against West Indies starting on July 21.
Ramdin has played 74 Tests for West Indies and has amassed 2,898 runs at an average of 25.87. The wicket-keeper batsman has also captained West Indies in 13 Tests before Jason Holder replaced him in September 2015.
In his last Test outing, which was against Australia, Ramdin scored 59 and 62 runs. West Indies toured Australia in 2015-16 and it was the last occasion , and alluded to those scores while voicing his frustration.
Earlier, West Indies announced a 12-man squad to face India in the four-Test series starting in Antigua on July 21. Ramdin has been dropped while uncapped batsman Roston Chase is picked in his place.
