  • Bangladesh won by 50 runs when they last clashed with England in men’s ODIs (March 2023), snapping a five-game losing streak against them; indeed, it was their first win against England in the format since a 34-run win in October 2016.
  • Bangladesh and England have clashed once at each of the last four editions of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, with Bangladesh’s two wins in 2015 and 2019 bookended by England wins in 2007 and 2019.
  • Bangladesh will be looking to win their first two games at an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time after defeating Afghanistan by six wickets in their first game of the 2023 tournament; in fact, the last time they won back-to-back games at the Cricket World Cup was in March 2015.
  • England have won the toss only twice in their last 22 men’s ODI fixtures, going on to win only eight of the 20 games in which they lost the toss on the day in that span.
  • England will be looking to avoid opening an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup with back-to-back losses for just the second time ever and the first time since 2015 after succumbing to a nine-wicket loss to New Zealand in their opening game of the 2023 tournament.
  • An England batter has scored a century once for every 1.6 games played by the country in men’s ODIs in 2023, the second most frequently of any team in the format behind only South Africa (1:1.2).
  • Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) has an ODI batting average of 36.1 as captain, the highest of any player to captain Bangladesh more than once in the format; this game will be the first time he’s faced England as captain in an ODI since March 2011.
  • Jos Buttler (England) finished his first innings of the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup with a 90.5% good connection rate, his highest in an ODI innings since March 2018 (91.3% vs New Zealand).
  • Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh) has scored 50+ runs in each of his last four ODI innings including one century, and requires just 37 runs to reach 1,000 scored in the format; a fifth straight 50+ score would equal the record by a Bangladesh player in men’s ODIs (Tamim Iqbal in 2012, Shakib Al Hasan in 2019).
  • Jonny Bairstow (England) is set to feature in his 100th ODI and his 13th at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup; in fact, his 71 fours at the tournament are the second most of any England batter at the tournament while only Eoin Morgan (25) has more sixes than Bairstow (12).
