England vs Bangladesh, World Cup 2023 Match 7: Defending champions England thrashed Bangladesh by 137 runs to register their first win of the World Cup 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday, October 10.
England piled up 364/9 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first. Dawid Malan brought up his sixth ODI hundred and scored 140 runs off just 107 balls. The 36-year-old southpaw partnered for 115 runs with Jonny Bairstow (52 off 59) for the first wicket. Joe Root chipped in with 82 runs off 68 balls to become England's leading run-scorer in the ODI World Cup.

Off-spinner Mahedi Hasan picked four wickets for 71 runs in eight overs, while left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam scalped three wickets for 75 runs in 10 overs. Amid the onslaught, Shakib Al Hasan bowled a miserly 10-over spell for just 52 runs and one wicket.
Bangladesh were never in hunt of the massive run-chase after losing three wickets for 26 runs in 5.4 overs. Opener Tanzid Hasan, number three Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib, who followed him, departed for 1, 0 and 1 respectively. Reece Topley (4/43) dismissed all the three batters.
Liton Das (76) and Mushfiqur Rahim (51) provided some resistance but 227 in 48.2 overs is all that Bangladesh could manage. Chris Woakes took two wickets, while Sam Curran, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone picked a wicket each.
Man of the Match: Dawid Malan (ENG) for scoring match-winning 140 runs off just 107 balls.
Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh captain): It was a good toss to win, there was some rain last night. There was some help for the faster bowlers but we didn't start well. When you give them a sniff, they will always come at us strongly. We did well in the last 10 overs but it will always be tough to chase 350. We planned well, but we couldn't execute. The ball was swinging nicely, needed to be put in the right areas and build momentum.
Once they got the momentum it was tough to contain them. I think the position they were in, they could have scored 380-390, we restricted them well. But I think 320 would have been a good total to chase here. It is a long tournament, we have a tough fixture coming up in Chennai, NZ are playing well. We have to move on, keep doing the right things and take it one game at a time.
Jos Buttler (England captain): Really good performance, stuck to our guns. Really important for us after a bad performance earlier. The back end I think we should have scored a few more, we could do well with some partnerships at the back end. It was fantastic to see Dawid Malan stand up and get a big hundred after what happened in the first game. We are always looking for the perfect performance, and can't remember the number of times it actually works out. One of the challenges is going to be reading the conditions and pitch well, we have a fantastic, balanced squad - a good combination of swing and spin. Today was fantastic to see Reece Topley come in and perform that way.
Dawid Malan (Man of the Match): It's nice to contribute, been a long journey to try and get to this stage, so to get here is fantastic and then to put in performance to win a game is great as well, I don't know what it is down to to, hopefully it will continue (talking about his incredible form this year).
Sometimes I play good shots and sometimes I play bad shots and that's cricket (talking about the criticism), it's always about trying to cash in against some type of bowling which is yours on the day. When you got Root at three who is so consistent, it allows us to play a bit freely. I'm desperate to do well in this format, desperate to win games of cricket and prove a point and prove people wrong. So, when I get in, I don't like to give it away.
