"According to police sources, Soni, who has been working as a housemaid for two years, was beaten by Kambli and his wife Andrea and was also locked in a room for three days when she asked for salary," ANI news agency's report said on Sunday.

"The case has been registered in the Bandra police station against Kambli and Andrea under IPC 342, 504, 506 and 34," it added.

It is not for the first time that Kambli is in the news for wrong reasons. Earlier this year, he had abused India and Pakistan cricketers during the ICC World Cup 2015.

Left-handed Kambli played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India. He made his international debut in 1991 against Pakistan in Sharjah in a ODI.
