Gautam Gambhir opens free community kitchen in Delhi to feed the poor

Gautam Gambhir has opened the free community kitchen 'Ek Asha' with an aim that no one sleeps with an empty stomach.

New Delhi, Aug 1: Senior India discard Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday (Aug 1) joined another noble cause as the cricketer launched his first community kitchen to feed the poor all round the year.

The 35-year-old cricketer has opened his first of many community kitchens named 'Ek Asha' in New Delhi's Patel Nagar area.

The Gautam Gambhir Foundation, which is involved in several humanitarian causes, has gone an extra mile in an attempt to help the needy and ensure they do not sleep hungry.

The initiative launched by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper will provide food to the poor all through the year without shutting down for even a single day.

Earlier in the day Gambhir tweeted, "Won World Cups, Won IPLs, beaten opponents. Now time 2 win hearts & beat hunger. Community Kitchen #1 by Gautam Gambhir Foundation."

The left-handed opening batsman, later, shared a video as well as a picture in which he could be seen serving the food to the people standing in queue outside the community kitchen.

"Compassion in my heart, a plate in my hand & a prayer on my lips 'No one should sleep hungry' #ggf #communitykitchen1," Gambhir captioned a picture of him serving food.

Gambhir posted a video which had a caption,"365 days, 52 weeks, 12 months, numerous hungers & Ek Asha."

This is not the first occasion when Gambhir has taken up a humanitarian cause. The veteran cricketer, during IPL 10, announced that his foundation will bear the expenses for the education of the daughters of slain CRPF jawans martyred in a Naxal attack.
