GT Retention List for IPL 2025: Ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline, Gujarat Titans have reportedly opted for a strategic overhaul by retaining three core players, including captain Shubman Gill and star spinner Rashid Khan, while letting go of key players.
This decision hints at the franchise's vision to rebuild around emerging talent and trusted match-winners, as Shami's exclusion comes despite his instrumental role in previous campaigns.

Sai Sudharsan, a rising talent with a standout season, is also part of the retained core, showcasing the GT's faith in youth and consistency over seasoned experience as they gear up for a fresh start.

Mohammed Shami is among the notable snub as the star performer from last year's ODI World Cup missed the last season due to injury and has been struggling to prove his fitness this season too. South African batter David Miller is crucially among other players to be released but could be the first choice for retention. Other notable absences are veteran players such as Umesh Yadav, Wriddhiman Saha, Kane Williamson.
Overseas youngsters such as Joshua Little (Ireland) and Noor Ahmad (Afghanistan) were also ignored but are good choices for RTM for GT during the auction while domestic names such as R Sai Kishore, Vijay Shankar, Jayant Yadav, Abhinav Manohar were also let go.
The IPL 2025 mega auction is slated to be held overseas in late November, with the total purse set at ₹120 crore. After retaining their five key players, Gujarat Titans are expected to have ₹69 crore left to spend. This substantial amount positions them to pursue marquee names and bolster their lineup with fresh faces.
The decision to retain young left-handed batter Sai Sudharsan after a breakout year indicates GT's inclination towards nurturing homegrown talent. Sudharsan scored 527 runs in 12 matches, earning his spot as a mainstay in the Titans' lineup. Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan's retentions point to Gujarat’s focus on strengthening their middle order and banking on finishers.
Mohammad Shami's release is a significant decision, given his contributions in previous seasons. Despite being a key performer, Shami’s exclusion is indicative of Gujarat Titans’ strategy to explore new options in the upcoming auction, focusing on fresh talent and a balanced squad composition.
