Harmanpreet Kaur to miss Women's Super League due to shoulder injury

India all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the forthcoming Women's Super Series in England due to a shoulder injury.

New Delhi, Aug 1: India all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the forthcoming Women's Super Series in England due to a shoulder injury.

Kaur was supposed to play for Surrey Stars in the T20 competition to be held in between August 10 and September 1.

The 28-year-old middle-order batsman has been advised a month's rest followed by a rehabilitation after an MRI after her return from ICC Women's World Cup 2017.

The MRI scan, conducted last week, has confirmed a tear in the cricketer's left shoulder. Kaur admitted that she wasn't in good shape in the later stages of the World Cup but her physios ensured she could play all the remaining games for she was a vital member in the side.

"I was in bad shape in the later stages of the World Cup but the physios got me going. It would have been great to be a part of Kia League. I had a successful stint with Sydney Thunder in Women's Big Bash League [WBBL] which lifted my game and confidence. I will convey my unavailability to the franchise.

"I was really looking forward to playing alongside England's World Cup winning cricketers - Natalie Sciver, Tammy Beaumont, Laura Marsh and Alex Hartley," Harman said in an interview to Hindustan Times.

The Moga girl, who received a rousing reception back after her arrival, thanked India women's cricket team physio Tracy Fernandes for helping her remain match fit despite injury in her shoulder.

"There were a couple of injuries before the final, but I was able to play thanks to our physio Tracy Fernandes," she said. "At one point, it looked like I might have to return from the World Cup. I would like to give full credit to her for playing the full tournament," Kaur added further.

Kaur had a remarkable performance in the recently concluded world cup in which India ended up as runner ups. Her whirlwind knock of 171* against defending champions Australia in the semi-final helped Women In Blue reach their second world cup final.

India, however, lost the final against hosts England by a margin of 9 runs in a record chase in front of a sold-out arena at the Lord's.
