ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Pakistan Cricket Team on Tuesday (October 10) created history by pulling off the biggest run chase in the history of the ODI World Cup.
Riding upon imperious centuries from in-form batters Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan, the Pakistani cricket team chased down a mammoth 345 run target against Sri Lanka in their second league match of the quadrennial showpiece.

Pakistan - whose previous best run chase in the history of ODI World Cup was in the 260s - gave a strong statement with their batting performance against a good Sri Lankan side.
Previously, the record for chasing down the biggest target in an ODI World Cup match was held by Ireland when they overhauled the target of 328 against England during the 2011 WC league match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
By overhauling the target of 345, the Pakistan cricket team also chased down the highest total against Sri Lanka by any team in the history of one-day internationals. Interestingly, this is the second highest run chase in the 50-over format for Pakistan.
Rizwan - who remained unbeaten on 131 against Sri Lanka at the Uppal Stadium - once again proved why he's such a dangerous batter in world cricket as he finished the game for his team under testing conditions. Rizwan - who was struggling with cramps after getting into the 80s - ensured his team crossed the finish line.
Abdullah Shafique - who was included in the playing eleven in place of out-of-form Fakhar Zaman - notched up a sublime century, the first of his ODI career.
With this emphatic win, the Men in Green continue their winning momentum in the global showpiece as they now have two victories in as many games, which were held in Hyderabad. Babar Azam-led side will now move to Ahmedabad where they'll take on arch-rivals and hosts India on Saturday (October 14).
The match between India and Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium will be the mother of all battles for it is the highly-anticipated encounter of the competition and all the tickets of that game have been sold out. [To check the biggest run chases in ODIs, click here]
