New Delhi, July 12: Cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) is not only the most lucrative franchise-based leagues for players, even Indian umpires and referees are being paid handsomely by the BCCI for discharging their duties in the high-profile tournament.

As per latest report, Indian umpires CK Nandan, Anil Chaudhary and C Shamshuddin were paid close to Rs 40 lakh for officiating in IPL 2016.

Delhi-based Chaudhary took home Rs 39,63, 762.00 (Rs 39.63 lakh) while Nandan and Shamshuddin walked away with Rs 40,83,876 (Rs 40.83 lakh) each.

KN Ananthapadmanabhan was paid Rs 26.65 lakh, while former India pacer Javagal Srinath received Rs 26 lakh (Rs 26,42,508) as match referee during the nineth edition of the cash-rich league.

Paying umpires and match referees handsomely is a wise decision by the BCCI for it helps in sending the message that the IPL not only benefits players, but other stakeholders too.

There is a constant pressure on umpires to perform well during the two month period of the cricketing extravaganza.
