ICC Test rankings: Jadeja loses top spot to Anderson; Warner displaces Kohli from top five

New Delhi, Sep 11: India star spinner Ravindra Jadeja has slipped to the second spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings for bowlers.

The left-arm spinner has been displaced by legendary England pacer James Anderson, who became the sixth bowler in the game to reach 500 Test wickets.

35-year-old Anderson grabbed career-best figures of seven for 42 in an innings and a match haul of nine wickets during the third Test match against West Indies.

He now leads the India left-arm spinner, Jadeja, by 12 points. He was the top-ranked bowler in August 2016 and has reclaimed the spot to become the oldest bowler to be number-one ranked since Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralidaran in July 2009 and the oldest pace bowler to be at the top since Australia's Glenn McGrath in January 2006.

The third and fourth places are also taken by spinners with India's Ravichandran Ashwin and Sri Lanka's Rangana Herath taking those positions.

In the ICC Test bowlers' rankings, Australia skipper Steve Smith sits comfortably at the top while his deputy David Warner has leapfrogged India skipper Virat Kohli to get into top five.

Warner, who slammed consecutive centuries in the two Tests against Bangladesh, now ranks fifth in the ICC table with 807 points. Kohli has 806 points.

England skipper Joe Root (889) and his New Zealand counterpart Kane Williamson (880) are ranked second and third respectively.

Cheteshwar Pujara (876 points) who is ranked fourth in the table is the lone Indian batsman in the top five batsmen in the ICC rankings.
