The first innings of the match saw South Africa posting a mammoth 357 for the loss of four wickets after being put in to bat first as Quinton de Kock (114) and Rassie van der Dussen (133) posted runs. Tim Southee (2/77) and Trent Boult (1/49) were among the wickets for New Zealand. New Zealand batters faltered in the run chase and lost the match by a big margin of 190 runs.
