Commentary

  • Signing off - Right then, that is it from this entertaining contest, and we close out a string of three doubleheader days with a bang. At the end of the week, Nellai Royal Kings stay top of the table, but IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans are right alongside them with 2 wins out of 3, the teams separated only by NRR. We now move into the new week but stay in Dindigul for a few more days. On Monday, August 10, there is one game scheduled. It will be SKM Salem Spartans taking on Siechem Madurai Panthers in Match 11 of the season. Salem are looking for their first win, whereas Madurai are looking to stay the only unbeaten team in the competition, and it has all the makings of a great contest. The game will begin at 2 pm GMT (7.30 pm IST), but you can tune in early as well to our build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

  • Player of the Match - Tushar Raheja gets the accolade for a second time running and deservingly so for his unbeaten 90 off just 52 balls. Raheja says that there's no better feeling than remaining unbeaten and finishing the game. On the performance of Amith Sathvik, Raheja says that he (Sathvik) set the tone, and he (Raheja) was happy to stay at the other end and watch. They decided to just go after the bowlers in the Powerplay, and it worked out. He also adds that they are taking it one game at a time. Further mentions that winning the Powerplay was the most important thing and everything else got easier thereafter.

  • The Presentation ceremony...

  • Not good enough - For a team that came into this game on the back of a couple of wins, this performance will hurt Nellai Royal Kings. They wasted a fine start with the bat and went from 119/1 in 10 overs to 206/8 in 20 overs. Then, with the ball, the pacers were off their lines and lengths, and even the spinners got taken apart inside the Powerplay. There was a mini comeback in the second half of the chase but by then the game was already over.

  • Amith Sathvik steals the show - What a run chase from Tiruppur and just like last time, they have chased down in excess of 200 runs with over 10 balls to spare. The foundation of this chase was laid right at the top by the two openers. Amith Sathvik and Tushar Raheja went on a blitz, picking up 90 runs in the Powerplay. Their stand finally ended on 119, when Sathvik chopped one onto the stumps, but not before playing an eye-catching knock of 76 off just 31 balls. Raheja top-scored again as he followed up his century from the last game with an unbeaten 90 in this one. Sai Kishore also played a handy knock, which will give him confidence going forward.

  • The champions go back-to-back - Another stellar showing with the bat and for the second time running, IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans have managed to gun down a target of above 200 runs, that too with ease. This is also the third-highest successful chase in TNPL history as Nellai Royal Kings are handed their first defeat of the season.

FOUR! That will do nicely for the reigning champions. The captain, Sai Kishore, hits the winning runs, and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans win by 8 wickets. Short ball on middle, Kishore leans back and gets on top of the bounce, smashing the pull between long on and deep mid-wicket for a boundary.

Good review! Another pace-off delivery, shorter and pushed wide of the off stump. Sai Kishore leaves it alone and a wide is called. Sonu Yadav has reviewed it. The third umpire confirms that the batter is in his normal stance, but technology shows that the ball is passing within the wide guideline. Fair delivery.

1 run, the batter goes back in the crease and flicks it away through mid wicket for a single.

  • 16.5

FOUR! Uppish but past the fielder in a flash. Pitched fuller and outside off, Sai leans on and creams the drive to the right of the leaping extra cover fielder and picks up a boundary. Just 10 needed now off 19 balls.

  • 16.4

A tired-looking shot from Raheja. Full toss on middle, slower and dips a bit as well. Raheja slaps it down to long on without any timing for a single.

  • 16.3

1 run, the batter comes forward and punches it through covers for a single.

  • 16.2

SIX! Sai Kishore finally gets one away. A slower bumper down leg, Sai gets inside the line and helps the pull over deep backward square leg for a six.

  • 16.1

A better effort in the field this time, but Sonu Yadav can't quite get to it. Length ball around off, Tushar Raheja lofts it off the toe end of the blade and over mid off. Yadav comes running in from the deep and slides forward, stopping it on the bounce. Single taken.
