Kanpur, Sep 29: The third day on Sunday (September 29) of the much-anticipated second Test match between India and Bangladesh at Kanpur's Green Park was called off without a ball being bowled, leaving fans deeply disappointed.
Despite no rain on Sunday, damp patches on the pitch-due to the persistent showers from the previous two days-meant the ground was unfit for play. Match officials inspected the conditions at 10 a.m., 12 noon, and 2 p.m., but each time, they ruled the surface unplayable.

Kanpur, hosting an international match after a gap of three years, has faced immense challenges from the weather. Day 2 of the match was completely washed out due to rain and wet outfield, while Day 1 saw only 35 overs of action before bad light and subsequent showers halted play. The frequent stoppages have turned what was meant to be a thrilling contest into a waiting game for both fans and players.
What made the situation even more frustrating was that the third day fell on a Sunday, a prime opportunity for cricket lovers to watch their favorite players in action. Fans started gathering at the stadium gates early in the morning, eager for a glimpse of the action, only to be met with delays. Despite refunds being issued for their tickets, the atmosphere around Green Park was one of dampened spirits, especially among those who had traveled from far.
"I came from Fatehpur, about 82 kilometers away from Kanpur, with high hopes of seeing the Indian team live on Sunday, but to my dismay, no play was possible today either. I have work tomorrow, so I will return to my hometown," shared one disheartened fan while speaking to MyKhel outside Green Park stadium.
Others echoed similar sentiments. "I was here yesterday too, but the match was called off due to rain. The same thing happened today. The BCCI should have planned this better. It's the rainy season in North India-this game should have been scheduled in another city," a fan vented.
The frustration among fans has also raised questions about the scheduling of matches. Many pointed out that Kanpur could have hosted the Test against New Zealand later this year instead of Bangladesh, as the weather in October is typically more favorable in this region.
"Green Park hosted New Zealand in 2021, and the October weather was much better for cricket. Already, Kanpur doesn't get many international games, and these washouts are doing more harm than good," commented another disappointed fan.
While Sunday saw some sunshine, the forecast for the upcoming days is still uncertain. Both fans and players are hopeful that the fourth and fifth days of the match will see uninterrupted play, but the weather for Monday (September 30) doesn't look promising. With so much riding on the final two days, there is hope that Green Park can salvage what remains of this Test match.
