Ravichandran Ashwin showed his immense batting skill on Thursday (September 19) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to salvage the Indian innings against Bangladesh in the first Test.
It was not the rosy start that everyone was expecting at the Chepauk for India. A young Bangladeshi pacer named Hasan Mahmud rattled the Indian top order early. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill departed with just a combined 12 runs. After Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant's brief yet important resistance, Ravichandran Ashwin stood tall with an excellent century to rescue India, along with his spin partner Ravindra Jadeja.

Although the duo are known for trapping opposition batters, they pulled out the Indian batting from the Bangladesh trap on Thursday. From 144 for 6, the veteran stars have taken India to 339 for 6, a mammoth rescue job at the tricky Chepauk deck.
Ashwin racked up his 6th Test century and still going strong at the end of the day. His partner in crime Jadeja is also batting with confidence and is just 14 runs away from his century. Although it was a tremendous batting display from the duo, Ashwin has garnered much of the accolades.
The 38-year-old was composed from the very first ball. He started the counter punch early and scored at a decent rate to drag India out of the mud. Since the start of his knock, Ashwin has maintained an excellent strike rate, which stands at 91 at Stumps. With 10 fours and 2 sixes, the knock has been colossal from India's point of view.
As Ashwin continues to showcase his willow wizardry at his home ground, former players and fans hailed the veteran after his scintillating display.
Ashwin played the brilliant knock in front of his friends and family at his home ground. This is how his Tamil Nadu teammate Subramaniam Badrinath reacted.
Former India batter Virender Sehwag is in awe of Ashwin-Jadeja partnership.
A fan compared Ashwin with great Sir Ian Botham. The India all-rounder has been reaching new heights in Test cricket. He is now the only player in history of Test cricket to score 20+ scores of more than fifty and 30+ five-wicket hauls.
Sourav Ganguly hailed both Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja after their scintillating partnership. The duo have created multiple records with their batting and will be looking to continue their merry way.
