England started off the five-match T20I series against India with a dismal defeat at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday (January 22).
A stellar performance from the India bowlers saw the visitors getting bundled out for just 132 runs, which was chased with 43 balls to spare courtesy of brilliant Abhishek Sharma, who scored 79 runs in just 34 deliveries.

After the recent woes for the Indian team, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side seems to have no problem in continuing their momentum in the shortest format of the game. After series wins against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa - team India has started positively against the two-time T20I World Cup champions.
But amid the Indian rejoice, an IPL team has been the subject of social media trolling after the Kolkata match. Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who still searching for their first IPL title, were trolled by the netizens on X as three of their English stars had a dismal outing in the match.
England trio Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell - all were roped in to the RCB squad in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Salt, who was a star performer for KKR last season, was sold to RCB for Rs 11.50 crore, whereas Liam Livingstone was sold for Rs 8.75 crore. Jacob Bethell, who is set to get his first IPL taste, was an acquisition of Rs 2.60 crore.
Despite being such big signings, all three RCB players failed miserably against India in Kolkata. Salt was dismissed for a duck, while Liam Livingstone was also cleaned up by Varun Chakravarthy for a zero. Jacob Bethell had a struggle as he could only manage 7 runs off 14 balls before Hardik Pandya sent him packing.
The fans noticed the awful outings from the RCB players and trolled them on social media. An user mentioned the English trio as 'Agents 007' for RCB, due to their scores in the match.
This fan took a sarcastic move and said RCB players always contribute for India.
This fan is hugely disappointed and wonders when a the RCB franchise will sign better players.
