New Delhi, Jan 29: Team India's preparations for the second Test against England, scheduled to begin in Visakhapatnam on February 2, have been marred by injury setbacks, with both Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul ruled out of the encounter.

Jadeja, a pivotal all-rounder in the Indian setup, suffered a hamstring injury during the fourth day's play of the first Test in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Rahul, an experienced top-order batsman, reported discomfort in his right quadriceps, prompting his exclusion from the squad for the second Test.

As per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) release, the BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring the progress of both players, with hopes of their swift recovery for future fixtures.

In light of these injuries, the Men's Selection Committee has swiftly taken action, and included Mumbai cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar. Sourabh Kumar left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder who hails from Uttar Pradesh. He along with Sarfaraz have received their maiden India call-up.

The addition of these players aims to mitigate the impact of Jadeja and Rahul's absence, providing depth and versatility to the team's lineup. However, it will be interesting to see who will get a chance in the playing eleven on February 2nd.

Furthermore, Saransh Jain has been named as a replacement for Washington Sundar in the India A squad for their upcoming fixture against England Lions, scheduled to commence on February 1 in Ahmedabad. This strategic move ensures that the Indian contingent remains well-equipped across all formats of the game, with a focus on nurturing talent and fostering resilience in the face of adversity.

Meanwhile, Avesh Khan will continue his journey with his Ranji Trophy team, Madhya Pradesh, maintaining his readiness to join the Test squad if required, thereby ensuring that India maintains flexibility and adaptability amidst the evolving circumstances.

As the Indian squad braces for the second Test against England, led by captain Rohit Sharma, the revised lineup underscores the team's determination to overcome challenges and deliver a spirited performance on home soil. India remains poised to tackle the formidable English challenge head-on, striving for victory and redemption in the ongoing series.

India's updated squad for the second Test against England will now feature stalwarts such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rohit Sharma. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and KS Bharat will have to shoulder the responsibility in the batting line up along with the others in the upcoming match.
