Rishabh Pant's current fractured toe may not have stopped him from batting, but the India star is advised to take a six-week rest following the injury.
As per the medical advise, BCCI is set to withdraw him from the 5th Test squad and a replacement is being considered.

Although the obvious name of Ishan Kishan came into mind as possible replacement, reports suggest BCCI is looking at Narayan Jagadeesan for the final match. Kishan had a fantastic outing with Nottinghamshire in county cricket as the southpaw played a couple of decent knocks, scoring 77 and 87 runs.
Form is not the reason why Ishan Kishan was not considered, rather it is an unfortunate incident which stopped him from returning to the side.
Ishan Kishan sustained an injury after falling from a scooty, resulting in an ankle injury that required ten stitches on his left foot. Due to this injury, he currently has a plaster on his left ankle and is not fit to play. This incident ruled him out as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant. Despite selectors reaching out to him for the spot, his physical condition has precluded him from immediate participation and he is slated to begin rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Kishan's recent experience with Nottinghamshire in the County Championship had made him a front-runner for the spot, but the scooty fall injury unfortunately ended those prospects for the Test series.
Rishabh Pant sustained a fracture in his right toe during the opening day of the fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford in July 2025. The injury occurred when he attempted a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes and the ball deflected onto his right foot.
Pant was visibly in pain, had to retire hurt on 37, and was taken off the field in a golf buggy. Scans confirmed the fracture, ruling him out of wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match, with Dhruv Jurel taking over as wicketkeeper. Pant has been advised to rest for six to eight weeks, which ruled him out of immediate international fixtures. Despite the injury, Pant showed resilience by returning to bat on Day 2, scoring a gritty half-century (54 runs off 75 balls) before being dismissed.
