Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel One Step Away from BCCI Contract? How can they Achieve it?

BCCI has announced the fresh annual contract for the 2023-24 season. A total of 30 players are in the contract and there is also an added clause of fast bowler's contract.

All the players have been categorized into four groups in the BCCI Contracts for 2023-24 season. Although new names like Mukesh Kumar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajat Patidar are already there, the absence of Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel surprised the fans.

Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel

Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel - all made their India debut in the ongoing Test series against England, but though Patidar got a contract, Sarfaraz and Jurel were not seen in the list of contracted players.

But there is a clause that BCCI has added which gives an opportunity to the duo to earn their contracts. As per BCCI, a player who will play 3 Tests, 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is in the contract period, they will be automatically included in the Grade C contract.

"Additionally, athletes who meet the criteria of playing a minimum of 3 Tests or 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is within the specified period will automatically be included in Grade C on a pro-rata basis," a statement from BCCI read.

Why Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel were not given BCCI Contracts?

As Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan have only played 2 Test matches, their names are not there in the list. But if either of them plays in the upcoming Test match in Dharamshala, the names will be added into the list among the contracted players for this season.

"For instance, Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, having played 2 Test matches so far, will be inducted into Grade C if they participate in the Dharamsala Test Match, i.e., the 5th Test of the ongoing series against England," the BCCI statement added.

Both Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel have made an outstanding start to their senior India career. Sarfaraz scored two half-centuries on his debut in Rajkot, while Dhruv Jurel put up an excellent show across two innings in Ranchi. He scored 90 in the first innings in Ranchi, and then backed it up with an unbeaten 39 to steer India home in the second innings, which also earned him the Player of the Match award.

It is quite likely that both of them will feature in Dharamshala, which seals the deal for their BCCI contract.
