Wankhede Stadium Awaits Another History

The Wankhede Stadium, situated in the heart of the city, is at the epicenter of this cricketing fervour, with fans eagerly awaiting the clash between hosts and favourites, India, and New Zealand.

Leading the Indian side is the local boy Rohit Sharma, who himself is on a roll in the ongoing cricketing extravaganza. With India on a roll with nine straight wins in the competition, the chants of "Rohit-Rohit" and "Kohli-Kohli" filled the air around the Wankhede Stadium.

Virat Kohli, the most popular cricketer not only in India but globally, added to the excitement as the Indian team arrived at the venue for a practice session on the eve of the match. The players sweated it out in the nets under the watchful eyes of head coach Rahul Dravid, who is also living his dream through this team.

As Rohit Sharma and his teammates fine-tuned their skills in the nets, fans gathered outside the stadium, which is not only a cricketing arena but also a tourist hotspot due to its proximity to the famous Marine Drive.

Fans Back Team India To Write Another Glorious Chapter At Wankhede

The enthusiasm of the fans was infectious, and their cheers created an electrifying atmosphere, creating a unique blend of cricketing passion and Mumbai's vibrant spirit. Many waited for hours to get a glimpse of their beloved cricketers and capture those moments on their phones.

Wankhede Stadium holds a special place in Indian cricket history, being the venue where the new India emerged victorious in the 2011 World Cup under the leadership of MS Dhoni. On that fateful evening on April 2, the current Indian generation earned the belief that they could be the world champions, since then, the stature of Indian Cricket has only grown the world over.

Reflecting on this, the current India captain Rohit Sharma mentioned that most of his current teammates weren't even born when Kapil Dev lifted the 1983 World Cup trophy. However, they witnessed the glory of Indian cricket in 2011 at Wankhede and are inspired to replicate that success.

While only R Ashwin and Virat Kohli remain from the 2011 squad, the entire team is driven by the aspiration to lift the coveted trophy and become a part of the folklore and history.

Team India's superfan, Ram Babu, expressed confidence, and told MyKhel from outside Wankhede Stadium, "We are confident Team India will win the semi-final against New Zealand at Wankhede and settle the scores of 2019. Rohit Sharma and his boys will then move to Ahmedabad where they'll cross the final hurdle and lift the trophy."

Pakistan Cricket Team's super fan Mohammad Bashir, popularly known as Chicago Chacha, is also in Mumbai to watch India vs New Zealand semi-final and backs India to win the ODI World Cup, stating, "India are going to win, there is no better team than them in this World Cup."

As the excitement reaches a crescendo, the match between India and New Zealand promises to be a tightly contested one, with memories of the 2019 encounter still fresh. The cricketing world waits with bated breath to see who will emerge victorious in this epic clash under the floodlights at Wankhede tonight.
