New York, Jun 9: In a highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2024 group match against arch-rivals Pakistan, Indian star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma struggled to deliver a solid start for their team.
The game, held at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, saw early dismissals of both players, putting India on the back foot right from the beginning.

Opening the batting for India, after opposition skipper Babar Azam won a crucial toss and invited the Indians to bat first, Kohli and Sharma faced the formidable Pakistani pace attack. Rohit started the proceedings well for India as 8 runs, including a brilliant six, came from the first over bowled by Shaheen Shah Afridi but the skies opened up once again and the players walked out of the field.
Soon after the play resumed, Kohli was the first to fall getting dismissed by Naseem Shah soon after hitting a boundary. He managed just 4 runs off 3 balls before giving a straightforward catch to Usman Khan at point. This early setback occurred in the second over, immediately following a rain interruption.
India's woes were compounded in the very next over when captain Rohit Sharma was sent back to the pavilion by Shaheen Shah Afridi. Attempting to flick a delivery from the left-arm pacer, Sharma failed to connect properly, resulting in a simple catch for Haris Rauf at mid-wicket. Sharma's innings ended at 13 runs off 12 balls.
Rohit Sharma's record against Pakistan in T20Is remains underwhelming, with 127 runs from 11 innings at an average of 14.11 and a strike rate of 117.59. His highest score against Pakistan in this format is an unbeaten 30.
With both key players back in the dugout, India found themselves reeling at 19/2 within the powerplay on a pitch favouring fast bowlers. The early dismissals of Kohli and Sharma left India's batting lineup under immense pressure in this crucial match.
Fans and experts started sharing their opinions on X, formerly known as Twitter, as the two stalwarts of Indian cricket were back in the dugout early.
Pakistan cricket fans are having a good time and buzzing.
Fans even trolled Kohli and Rohit for throwing their wickets away and leaving the team in trouble in a crunch game.
