Nagpur, March 16: India on Tuesday (March 15) became the second hosts in the history of the T20 World Cup to lose their opening match in the tournament when they crumbled to a 47-run defeat against a spirited New Zealand.

Only England are the other side to have lost their first match as the hosts of a t20 World Cup. They lost to minnows Netherlands by 4 wickets in the 2009 edition after scoring 162. Paul Collingwood was the captain of England in that tournament.

Hosts of the all other four editions played since 2007 registered comfortable victories in their inaugural matches.
