India squads against South Africa announced: Focus shifts back to Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Bengaluru, Sep 20: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the current captain of India's limited overs teams, is once again back at the helm after a break of 3 months.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the limited overs' squads for the upcoming series against South Africa, starting Oct 2.

The selection committee, headed by Sandeep Patil, today met in Bengaluru to pick the squads for the T20s and ODIs.

While the BCCI announcement was on the expected lines but speculations were rife that MS Dhoni might not get a chance to lead Team India in the T20s.

Rumours were doing the rounds that BCCI might hand over the T20 baton over to Virat Kohli in order to prepare the young skipper for the upcoming World T20 in March next year.

Putting an end to all such rumours, chief selector Patil said that they did not discuss about Dhoni in the meet. This proves that the selectors are in no mood to make changes in the affairs of limited overs and want Dhoni to lead the side in the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in India in five months' time.

Thus, it seems selectors too do not want to rake up any unnecessary controversy by changing the captain. Although, there were opinions that BCCI should hand over the reigns of the T20 squad to young and aggressive Virat Kohli, who made history by leading India win a Test series in Sri Lanka after 22 years.

While it was nothing more than an extended practice session, Dhoni again wielded the willow in a charity game two days back at the Oval in London and scored 38 runs in a winning cause.

Living up to his reputation of being the best match finisher Dhoni remained unbeaten in the charity match and was also adjudged the man of the match.

But, a lot will depend on MS Dhoni & Co's performance against South Africa. Team India had suffered a humiliating deafeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the ODI series. Team India fans would be hoping that the hosts will win the series against a strong side to make a good start in the new season.

South Africa will play 3 T20Is, 5 ODIs and 4 Test during their tour to India, which starts with the T20Is on October 2.
