India Vs Australia: Cheteshwar Pujara criticised on Twitter for 'slow batting'

New Delhi, March 21: Middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara created the Indian record with his marathon innings against Australia in the Ranchi Test.

The right-handed batsman from Saurashtra scored 202, but it was the 11 hours he spent at the pitch and the 525 balls he faced which grabbed the attention of the cricketing world.

Pujara became the first Indian to face more than 400 balls in a Test innings at home since VVS Laxman batted 452 deliveries during his 281-run knock against Australia during the Kolkata Test in 2001.

Pujara surpassed Rahul Dravid's record of facing 495 balls en route his 270 against Pakistan at Rawalpindi, which was the previous best by an Indian batsman - in terms of most balls faced.

It was Pujara's marathon knock and his 199-run partnership with Wriddhiman Saha which helped the Indian team reach 601/9 in whopping 210 overs.

On Tuesday (March 21) Pujara also climbed to the second spot in the latest ICC Test rankings after his patient knock.

After the match ended in a draw as the hosts couldn't bowl the visitors out in the second innings, there were some who blamed Pujara's slow innings as a reason for the drawn Test.

For drawn Tests are a rarity, the naysayers had someone to blame for and Pujara's slow and patient knock gave them an opportunity to point fingers at the batsman.
