It was redemption for Virat Kohli as he scored his first Test hundred in 1205 days against Australia in Ahmedabad on Sunday (March 12).
And after that, former India player and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has defined Kohli's inning as the perfect Test hundred.
Kohli scored his 28th Test century in Ahmedabad in a disciplined manner as he ended his drought. It was a measured inning as the Indian batter showed patience, played less extravagant shots and constructed his inning fantastically to get a well-deserved hundred. And after the knock, Gavaskar says the Indian batter never seemed out of form.
Speaking after the 4th day's play to broadcaster Star Sports, Gavaskar heaped praises on Kohli and hailed him for his gritty knock, saying the player was getting out previously after committing his first mistake.
"Every great batter thinks about a hundred. A century is the minimum price he keeps for his wicket. The way Kohli was batting in the last two-and-a-half years when he didn't score a century, he was batting well, scored seven or eight fifties. So it never seemed that he was out of form. The only thing that was happening was that he was getting out on his first mistake," Gavaskar said.
He also went on to add that the century epitomized a perfect Test hundred as it was a blend of patience and determined batting and some beautiful shot-making in between.
"It was like how a Test match century should be constructed. He started slightly slowly, where he was trying to figure out the pitch and the bowling. Then he played a few shots after getting set and tried to play even more shots after he had scored a century. It shows how determined he was," he added.

Earlier, Usman Khawaja and Shubman Gill scored centuries and Gavaskar believes Virat Kohli kind of measured his chances to score a hundred on the Ahmedabad pitch as it was the best opportunity for him to break his duck.
"He knew that India were quite far behind Australia, who had scored a mountain of runs. He had seen that Usman Khawaja played a 180-run knock and Cameron Green scored a century for Australia, and Shubman Gill played a 128-run knock. This was a good opportunity for him to play a big knock so that the Indian team reaches close to 480," the former India batter concluded.
It was also Kohli's 75th international century as the batter now finished the Border Gavaskar Trophy as the highest run-scorer for India with 297 runs. The fourth Test has come to a draw and India have clinched the series 2-1, thus booking a place for WTC 2023 Final.
