The perseverance and resolve of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane against Australia on third day of the Bengaluru Test put the cricketing world in their awe.

New Delhi, March 6: Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane showed great resolve in the final session of the third day as India fought back hard to take 126-run lead against Australia in the second Test.

The duo put up a partnership of 93 runs for the fifth wicket as India scored 213 runs for the loss of four wickets.

The partnership between Pujara, who is batting on 79, and Rahane, who is batting on 40, is the highest stand from both the sides in the series so far.

Pujara and Rahane, who have been the backbone of Indian middle-order in the recent years, batted with caution and scored at 2.74 runs per over. They kept frustrating the visitors who tried everything to break the partnership.

Rahane who was demoted to No. 6 following a dismal show in the in the nine of his 10 innings, resisted the Australian bowlers and scored 40 runs. Mrs. Rahane was teary eyed in happiness after he returned unbeaten with his partner at stumps.

Pujara-Rahane's resolve paid off as India completed the third session without losing a single wicket and brought some cheer in the dressing room.

The perseverance and resolve put the cricketing world in their awe.
