Mumbai, Dec 7: Young middle order batsman Manish Pandey has been called into India's squad for the remainder of the Test series against England after Ajinkya Rahane was ruled out.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced today (December 7), that Rahane has sustained an avulsion fracture on his right index finger after a ball stuck him during a practice session at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, on the eve of the 4th Test.

Also, paceman Shardul Thakur was named as a back-up for pacer Mohammed Shami, who is nursing a sore knee.

The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring Shami's progress and a decision on his participation will be taken before the start of the fourth Test match.

Shardul Thakur was a part of the Indian squad in West Indies too but he didn't get a change to make it to the Playing XI. While Pandey if gets chance to play will be making his Test debut.
