The serene surroundings of HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala are about to reverberate with cricketing fervour as Team India and New Zealand gear up for a high-stakes encounter in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
This India vs New Zealand clash on a Super Sunday (October 22), promises to be a contest for the ages at the picturesque stadium which has snow-covered Dhauladhar ranges in the background.

Both teams, India and New Zealand, enter this match with unblemished records in the tournament so far, having secured victory in all their previous encounters. It's a showdown between two cricketing giants who have consistently displayed their prowess in the ongoing 10-team competition.
India, led by the inspirational captain Rohit Sharma, and New Zealand, with stand-in captain Tom Latham at the helm, are poised for a thrilling battle at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala.
What makes this fixture particularly intriguing is India's historical struggle against New Zealand in ICC events. The Men in Blue have not managed to secure a win against the Blackcaps in such tournaments since 2003, a statistic that might cause some unease among fans.
As the HPCA Stadium, with its capacity of over 23,000 spectators, fills up with cricket enthusiasts, the anticipation for this battle reaches a crescendo.
India's head coach, Rahul Dravid, acknowledged the challenge posed by the New Zealand team. Dravid commented, "Yeah, New Zealand are a very good side. I will say that they are playing very good cricket.
"They play in India a lot. They played here. They come on tours to India a lot. A lot of their players have played in the IPL, so they're very used to these conditions. A lot of experience in their team as well.
"If you look at their squad, we were going through their squad and obviously doing our strategy meetings, and they do have a lot of experience and depth in their squad as well. They are well balanced. So, yes, of course, a very good team and playing good cricket as well. So, we know we will have to be at our absolute best."
Dravid, who was part of two World Cup games against the same opponents i.e. in 1999 and 2003 and tasted defeat and success, further added, "But I think it's really exciting for us as well because we believe that we are playing good cricket at the moment. So, it should be a really good contest, and we know that we will have to play well, but we are very confident."
India's impressive form in the tournament is undeniable, and they seem to have hit their stride. However, New Zealand's track record in ICC events has consistently posed a significant challenge to India, and this encounter promises to be a stern test for both sides.
Team India's super fan Rambabu tells MyKhel that the electrifying atmosphere inside the stadium and a sea of blue will act as a catalyst to the Indian side and they will be able to break the Kiwi jinx here.
"New Zealand are a good side and have quality players in their ranks but Team India is also prepared. Our team is balanced and all the players are in good form. It will be a good contest but our team will win tomorrow," the India fan claimed.
On the other side, New Zealand's stand-in captain, Tom Latham, had words of admiration for the Indian team, saying, "India are a fantastic side. We've seen that over many years, especially at this World Cup as well. They're playing some fantastic cricket, which is great to see."
Latham, who is filling in as the captain after Kane Williamson sustained a finger injury against Bangladesh, further states, "On the back of that, I see two form teams that are playing some good cricket, so it's going to be a great contest tomorrow."
"Over recent years, we've had some great games of cricket, whether here in India or back home in New Zealand. So, I'm sure tomorrow the clash will be no different, and I'm sure both sides are really looking forward to it," the southpaw batter claimed.
Latham's comments underscore the respect and anticipation surrounding this clash. India and New Zealand have delivered memorable cricketing battles in recent years, and fans can expect nothing less on this occasion.
The contest is set to be a true spectacle, as two teams in peak form collide in the serene hills of Dharamsala. While India seeks to end their ICC drought against New Zealand, the Blackcaps aim to maintain their dominance in this thrilling rivalry. Cricket enthusiasts are in for a treat, and the world watches with bated breath as the stage is set for this momentous showdown.
