Commentary
Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling performance helped India clinch a thrilling 6-run victory over Pakistan in their T20 World Cup 2024 Group A match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.
Defending a modest total of 119, India managed to restrict Pakistan to 113 for 7, thanks to Bumrah's match-winning spell.
India's Struggles with the Bat
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Pakistan's bowlers made life difficult for the Indian batters. Rishabh Pant was the lone warrior for India, scoring a resilient 42 runs.
However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled against the disciplined bowling of Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, who each claimed three wickets. Mohammad Amir chipped in with two crucial wickets, as India was bundled out for 119 in 19 overs.
At 81 for 3 after 10 overs, India seemed poised for a competitive total but collapsed, adding only 38 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
Pakistan's Chase Falters
Pakistan's chase started steadily despite losing Babar Azam early, courtesy of a sharp catch by Suryakumar Yadav. Mohammad Rizwan anchored the innings but couldn't find consistent support. With Pakistan at 73 for 3 after 12.1 overs, needing a run-a-ball 47, they appeared in control.
However, Bumrah's introduction turned the tide. He dismissed key batters at crucial moments, finishing with remarkable figures of 3 for 14 in his four overs.
Dramatic Final Over
The game reached a climax in the final over, with Pakistan needing 18 runs. Arshdeep Singh bowled a tight over, including a perfect yorker and the crucial wicket of Imad Wasim after a successful review. Despite Naseem Shah hitting two consecutive fours, Pakistan fell short by six runs, giving India a vital win in a low-scoring contest.
