
Johannesburg, Jan 26: India's batting mainstay Virat Kohli played another fine knock of 41 runs in the second innings of the third Test against South Africa on Friday (January 26).
The Indian skipper once again showcased his batting prowess as he showed a lot of grit on a treacherous Wanderers track where batting never looked easy from the start of the match.
After emerging as the top scorer for the side in the first innings, Kohli played yet another classy knock and helped India extend the lead.
In his valiant knock of 79-ball 41, Kohli, as usual, showed his class with some crisp on drives and put up crucial partnerships with Murali Vijay and later with Ajinkya Rahane.
The 29-year-old claimed yet another milestone for his as he scored most runs as India captain and surpassed his predecessor Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record.
Kohli surpassed Dhoni's record of 3454 runs as to claim another feather in his cap. Dhoni had a tally of 3454 runs in 60 Tests (96 innings) while Kohli surpassed him in only 35 Tests (57 innings).
If one goes by the stats then Kohli has scored 2062 runs in 19 Tests (Avg 71.10, Hundreds- 7) in India and 1394 runs in 16 Tests (Avg 60.60, Hundreds- 7) overseas.
Kohli struck six boundaries in his patient 41-run knock, falling in the afternoon session when Kagiso Rabada cleaned him up with an unplayable delivery. India were 134-5 when their skipper departed, leading by 127 in Johannesburg.
