Colombo, Aug 4: After a patchy last season, Ajinkya Rahane roared back to form and slammed his career's ninth Test century on the first day of the second Test against Sri Lanka on Thursday (August 3).
The 28-year-old right-handed batsman looked in good knick as he notched up his second Test ton against Sri Lanka.
The Mumbaikar, who slammed a fifty in the first Test at Galle, capitalised upon the opportunity at hand and made most of it.
He along with centurion Cheteshwar Pujara added 217 runs for the fourth wicket stand as they grinded Sri Lankan bowlers once again.
Rahane reached his half-century off 83 balls, inclusive of 6 fours. The duo crossed their 150-partnership with ease as India's 300 came up in the 77th over of the day.
Three overs later, he survived a leg before shout via DRS off Malinda Pushpakumara (0-82) but the ball seemed to be going down leg. Thereafter, Rahane celebrated double hundred partnership with Pujara.
When he tapped for a single to complete his hundred, it was more like an elation for Rahane, who got a Test hundred after nearly 10 months. His last hundred was 188 against New Zealand in Indore last year.
No sooner than he reached his hundred, the camera was panned towards his wife sitting in the stadium to record her reaction. His wife Radhika jumped into celebration and the only word that came out of her mouth was 'finally' (he's completed his hundred).
Here's the video shared by BCCI on it's Twitter handle:
Rahane had his share of luck en route his century as he survived a leg-before shout via DRS off Rangana Herath (1-83), but there was a clear inside edge and umpire Bruce Oxenford had to reverse his decision.
Rahane was dismissed for 132 after getting stumped by Niroshan Dickwella off debutant Malinda Pushpakumara's ball.
