Here are a few record created by Virat Kohli and his boys in the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

India Vs Sri Lanka: ODI records created by Virat Kohli and Team India in the series

New Delhi, Sep 4: India's batting mainstay Virat Kohli struck another sublime century, batting second, to stamp his authority that no one is better than him when it comes to chasing.

The 'run machine' slammed a consecutive ton in the final one-day international against Sri Lanka took his tally to 30, which is joint second most with former Australia captain Ricky Ponting.

The Indian skipper has reached the milestone in just 184 innings and became fastest to reach 30 centuries in the 50-overs format. Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who sits at the top of the table with record 49 centuries under his belt, took 267 innings to reach his 30th hundred.

While Ponting achieved the milestone in his 349th innings i.e. he took 165 more innings than Kohli.

Not just Kohli, the entire Indian side created several unique records in the just concluded 5-match ODI series in the island nation.

Here are a few records that Kohli and Co. made in the ODI series:

Kohli has 8 centuries against Sri Lanka:

The 110-run knock against Sri Lanka was Kohli's 8th ODI century against them, most by any batsman. He's now on par with Sachin Tendulkar's 8 tons against the Islanders. Only Tendulkar has scored more centuries than Kohli (9 tons vs Australia) against any opposition.

Kohli has scored 1,017 in this year from 18 games. He has, so far, scored 4 ODI centuries in 2017, most by any batsman this year. He now has completed five 1000+ scores in a calendar year.

Keeping his top spot intact in the latest ICC ODI batsman rankings, Kohli (887 points) has also equalled Sachin Tendulkar's record of highest rating points pocketed by an Indian.

MS Dhoni on a record-breaking spree:

The most experienced cricketer in this Indian side had some memorable moments in the series against Sri Lanka. The former India captain achieved several personal milestones and silenced the naysayers who were questioning his position in the side.

As a wicketkeeper, Dhoni became the first to effect 100 stumpings in the ODI and surpassed Kumar Sangakkara's record of 99 stumpings.

Dhoni also entered the prestigious 300 match club and became only the sixth Indian to do so. He's only the second wicketkeeper in this list after Sangakkara.

Dhoni is the only batsman in the 300+ club, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, Jacques Kallis, etc. to have a batting average of 50-plus. Mahi averages 52.20.

The master-finisher averages a whopping 101 in successful run chases, which is still the best in the world. Kohli comes second on this list. The Ranchi-lad owns the record for remaining not out (74) most number of times.

Jasprit Bumrah touches a new height:

The young India pacer was named the man of the series for his brilliant show with the old as well as the new ball. The 23-year-old picked up 15 wickets in five games and become most successful pacer in a bilateral series on Sri Lankan soil.

Bumrah has made handsome gains in the bowlers' rankings as he achieved his career best spot in the ICC bowlers rankings. He's jumped as many as 27 places to be fourth behind Mitchell Starc, Imran Tahir and leader Josh Hazlewood in the latest rankings released today.

Pacers equal 21-year-old record:

Pace bowling has been a weakness of the Indian teams so far, but the infusion of new blood like Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami has made the Indian pace attack one of the best in the world.

Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged a fifer each in the series. It has happened after a gap of 21 years when two Indian pacers picked up a five-wicket haul in any series. Robin Singh and Venkatesh Prasad bagged a fifer each during 1996 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma's back-to-back centuries, a warning for opposition:

Indian opener Rohit Sharma slammed two consecutive centuries in the tournament. His sublime knocks in the third and fourth ODI proved the stylish right-handed batsman has regained his touch after being rested for the West Indies tour. Rohit's coming back to form is heartening for the Indian side as they have a long limited-overs season at home ahead.

India will host Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka till December this year. If Ro'hit-man' Sharma remains to the best of his form, then expect a few more tons from him.
