Bridgetown (Barbados), Jun 20: The Indian cricket team wore black armbands in a solemn tribute to former fast bowler David Johnson during their T20 World Cup Super Eight match against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval on Thursday (June 20).
Johnson, who represented India in two Tests in 1996, tragically passed away on Thursday after falling from his fourth-floor balcony in Bengaluru. Local authorities are investigating the incident to determine if it was a case of suicide.

"Team India will wear black armbands today in memory of former India fast bowler David Johnson, who passed away on Thursday," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced just before the start of the game.
Johnson's brief international career included a Test match each against Australia and South Africa, where he claimed three wickets. In domestic cricket, he was a notable performer for Karnataka, securing 125 wickets in 39 First-Class matches and 41 wickets in 33 List A games from 1992-93 to 2001-02.
The cricketing community has expressed deep sorrow over Johnson's untimely demise. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar led the tributes, stating on X (formerly Twitter), "Deeply saddened by the passing of my former teammate, David Johnson. He was full of life and never gave up on the field. My thoughts are with his friends and family."
Former Indian bowlers and Johnson's Karnataka teammates Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble also shared their condolences. Prasad wrote, "Shocked and sad to hear about the passing away of David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Om Shanti."
Kumble expressed his sorrow, saying, "Saddened to hear the passing of my cricketing colleague David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family. Gone too soon 'Benny'!"
