Indian origin cricketer Bavalan Pathmanathan dies in Britain after ball hits chest

London, Jul 7: In yet another set back to the game of cricket, an Indian-origin batsman passed away after being hit by ball in the chest while he was playing in Surrey on Sunday (July 5).

As per a report published in the Guardian, British Tamil cricketer Bavalan Pathmanathan turned out for Manipay Parish Sports Club (UK) in division three of the British Tamil League on Sunday at Long Ditton recreation grounds, where he received the blow.

24-year-old Pathmanathan was given CPR and treated by ambulance as well as air ambulance doctors but he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

After tragedy, Manipay Parish SC released a statement on their Facebook page saying, "Our cricketer Bavalan Pathmanathan is no longer with us. He was hit by the ball on his chest while batting. Our club was totally shocked by his death at this young age."

The game of cricket has this year witnessed the death West Bengal Bengal's Under-19 cricket captain Ankit Keshri, who was seriously injured while fielding in a match here on Friday, passed away in a hospital in Kolkata in April.

Before Keshri, the Gentlemen's Game was shocked over the death of Australian opener Phil Hughes' on November 25, last year. Hughes died after he suffered a severe head injury during a match.
