At 19 years and 297 days, Hameed has become England's youngest-ever Test opener, and the fifth-youngest player overall.
Hameed's family, which now lives in Manchester, hails from Gujarat and his elder brother Numan, got married last week in Rajkot.
The young Lancashire batsman is known for his patient batting approach. This particular quality has earned him the nickname 'Baby Boycott' (his style similar to that of English legend Geoffrey Boycott).
Hameed was part of the England squad on Bangladesh tour as well but he didn't get a call-up to the playing XI there. Ben Duckett debuted against Bangladesh in the first Test.
This is how fans reacted on Hameed's debut match:

Hameed looked promising on his debut match as he impressed the experts with his composure in the 31-run-inning before he was plumbed by Ravichandran Ashwin.
Earlier, the visiting team won the toss and opted to bat in the maiden Test hosted by Rajkot. England lost captain Alastair Cook for 21 and debutant Hameed for 31 on either side of the drinks break.
