Bengaluru, March 16: While the men's team lost their opening match in the ongoing World Cup T20 to New Zealand in Nagpur, the Indian eves beat Bangladesh in their first match of the women's World Cup at the Chinnasawamy Stadium here.

The side led by Mithali Raj trounced Bangladesh by 72 runs after scoring 163 for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Raj was the highest scorer with 42 off 35 balls.
It was a record of sort for the Indian women's side as it won its first match in a T20 World Cup for the first time.
Against Bangladesh, however, it was the second win by the Indian women in as many games in the T20 World Cup. They had beaten the same opponent at Sylhet in the 2014 edition by 79 runs.
The Indian women will take on their Pakistani counterparts at New Delhi on March 19, the same day when the male cricketers from both countries will clash at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
