IPL 2015: Yuvraj Singh failed to blast despite strong crowd support from MS Dhoni's Chennai

Yuvraj failed despite Chennai's support

Disappointment came across 'revamped' Delhi Daredevils' way as their batsmen, barring top scorer Albie Morkel, showed no resistance to CSK bowlers. Even tournament's most valued player Yuvraj Singh failed to give the much needed support to well set Morkel to chase 151 runs.

Yuvraj Singh, who was a bought for a record Rs 16 crores at this year's players auction, failed. The left-hander was out for just 9 runs despite getting a roaring welcome from the Chennai crowd.

Crowd in the arena went berserk flamboyant middle order batter sent the ball outside the boundary and hoped he will entertain them till the end. Unfortunately the crowd's massive support too didn't help Yuvraj stay for long and the left-hander became a victim to short length delivery by Ishwar Pandey.

Experts also questioned DD skipper JP Duminy's decision of sending Yuvraj lower down the order. But that couldn't be an excuse to Yuvraj's miss timed shot that cost him and the team a crucial wicket and at an important phase of the match. His dismissal and unease against short deliveries will give opposition teams to make strategies against him.

Yuvraj, who owns the reputation of a T20 specialist, hasn't been able to live up to public expectations in the IPL. His poor performance resulted in his ouster from Team India's ODI squad. There were debates when the Man of the Tournament in World Cup 2011 was denied a ticket to Australasia this time.

Yuvraj's father Yograj Singh had openly criticised skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for being the main man in Yuvraj's ouster from the Indian team for World Cup 2015. Yuvraj, however, distanced from his father's statement and clarified that he has nothing to do with the latter's statement.

Thus after a high octane drama on TV channels, millions of Yuvraj's supporters hoped their favourite star would silence the critics with his performance on the field. But, sadly that didn't happen in the opening game as MS Dhoni's side managed to win a thrilling encounter on their home turf.

Although, it was just the opening game one can't question the amount of talent Yuvraj has. Yuvraj is a sportsman who needs just a knock to make his presence felt but everyone was hoping his gun to blaze against MS Dhoni's CSK.
