Gujarat Lions have signed young all-rounder Ankit Soni as a replacement for out of form Shivil Kaushik for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign.

Rajkot, April 26: Gujarat Lions have signed young all-rounder Ankit Soni as a replacement for out of form Shivil Kaushik for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017.

Kaushik featured in three matches before being ruled out of the tournament and the prime reason for his ouster from the squad could be the chinaman's poor show in the tournament. (Preview: RCB Vs GL)

IPL 2017: Gujarat Lions replace chinaman Shivil Kaushik with Ankit Soni

Kaushik's replacement is the 23-year-old Soni, an all-rounder from Mumbai.

Earlier, veteran India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who remained unsold in the IPL 2017 auction, was also been signed up by the franchise, as a replacement to injured West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

Pathan last played for the Rising Pune Supergiant and will now represent his sixth IPL franchise.

Pathan, the left-arm seamer from Baroda had a base price of Rs 50 lakh ($74,650), found no takers on two occasions when his name was pronounced in the IPL auction.

Halfway through the tournament, he has got a second chance and prove his mettle in the shortest format of the game and answer his critics.

Gujarat are languishing at the seventh spot in the points table. GL all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was on Sunday (April 23) ruled out of the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league due to a hamstring injury.

Gujarat are badly missing the services of this match winning player.

Bravo, who sustained the injury in December in the Big Bash League, has been going through a rehabilitation process after surgery on his right hamstring in January.

Gujarat Lions' next encounter is against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
