IPL 2017: Match 2: RPS Vs MI: Players to watch out for

Here are the players who will be the biggest crowd pullers in tonight's Maharashtra Derby between Mumbai and Pune in IPL 2017.

Pune, April 6: The second match of Indian Premier League (IPL) season 10 is going to be Maharashtra Derby as Steve Smith-led Rising Pune Supergiant are going to lock horns with Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians here on Thursday (April 6).

Both the teams would be eyeing a win and give a perfect start to their campaigns in the new season and win the Maharashtra derby.

Mumbai are the two-time champions and have a balanced side on paper, while Pune will, this year, be led by a new skipper in Steve Smith.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the most successful skipper in the history of IPL, would for the first time be playing as a mere player as he was stripped off his captaincy.

Under Dhoni Pune could win just five matches in their debut season last year. Under Rohit Sharma, Mumbai have won two IPL titles and have always been a force to reckon with.

The two teams have played two games so far and both the teams have registered one win each in the previous season.

However, both the teams are studded with star performers and match winners who are capable of single-handedly winning the games for their sides.

Here are the players who will be the biggest crowd pullers in tonight's Maharashtra Derby:

The South African skipper couldn't do much for his franchise in the last year's IPL season 9 after he was ruled out of the tournament due to injury, early on.

Du Plessis is likely to open the RPS innings tonight and looking at the kind of explosive batsman he is, Pune fans would be hoping he explodes.

The skipper would be the another Pune cricketer to watch out for in tonight's game.

It will be the first occasion when Smith will lead the Pune franchise after team's baton was passed on towards him.

MS Dhoni is one of the biggest names in the IPL and he's the biggest crowd puller for the franchise.

He may have been removed as the captain of the franchise, following team's poor show in the previous season, but Dhoni's popularity hasn't waned one bit.

Dhoni, may not be bothered about what critics say about him but the senior India cricketer would be eager to silence his critics with his batting.

All eyes would be on this England all-rounder after was bought for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore in the IPL auction.

Stokes' performance with both the bat and ball will be equated with his hefty pay package.

Stokes will be making his IPL debut tonight and the swashbuckler would hope to make his first game a memorable one.

The charismatic skipper of the Mumbai Indians will strengthen the middle order of his team in the tournament.
