IPL 2017: Match 23: Highlights: Kolkata (KKR) Vs Gujarat (GL)

Here are the highlights of the league match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017.

Kolkata, April 21: Skipper Suresh Raina led from the front as Gujarat Lions convincingly chased down the target of 188 and defeated KKR by 4 wickets with 10 balls to spare in the league match in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 here on Friday (April 21).

Raina top scored with 84 off 46 balls before equally valuable contributions from openers Aaron Finch (31 off 15) and Brendon McCullum (33 off 17) set the stage for a brilliant run chase for the visiting side.

Earlier, put in to bat first Kolkata rode over 48-72 from Robin Uthappa to score 187/5 against Gujarat.

Sunil Narine (42) and Gautam Gambhir (33) were the other batsmen to score for Kolkata.

Narine, the West Indies bowler is turning out to be a big hitting batsman, and dealt only in boundaries during his 17-ball 42 (9x4, 1x6) setting a new record of all runs scored in fours and sixes.

Raina elected to chase immediately after winning the toss at Eden Gardens Stadium here. Gujarat Lions have made a couple of changes in their playing XI as Australian all-rounder James Faulkner finally got a place into the squad.


Here are the highlights of the match between KKR and GL:

# Aaron Finch gave Gujarat a blazing start in the run chase as he smashed a 15 ball-33 before being dismissed by Nathan Coulter-Nile in the fourth over.

# Brendon McCullum scored 33 off 17 balls before being caught by Manish Pandey in the deep in Chris Woakes' over.

# Suresh Raina slammed his 30th IPL fifty.

# Suresh Raina 84 is his highest score for Gujarat, he went past his previous best of 75 which he made against SRH last year.

# 84 is Raina's second-highest score when chasing in IPL. Highest is 87 against Kings XI Punjab in 2014 qualifiers.

# 58-run partnership between Raina and Ravindra Jadeja for the 6th wicket was crucial in Gujarat's win.

# With 8.25 runs per over, Kuldeep Yadav was the most economical of KKR bowlers.

# Kuldeep Yadav gave 33 from 4 overs and picked up 2 wickets; bowled 7 dot balls.

# Sunil Narine gave a flying start to the KKR as he scored 42 from 17 balls.

# Narine also conceded 42 runs from his quota of 4 overs.

# Narine created the record of becoming the first batsman to score runs only in fours and sixes.

# Narine eclipsed Sri Lanka batting great Sanath Jayasuriya's tally of 36 runs scored in boundaries when the dashing southpaw was playing for Mumbai Indians against Deccan Chargers.

# Narine smashed 9 fours and a six in his cameo of 17-ball 42.

# Suresh Raina got the wicket of Sunil Narine in his first over.

# Gautam Gambhir scored 33 off 28 balls.

# Gambhir was dismissed by James Faulkner, Suresh Raina took a good catch to get rid of KKR skipper.

# 69-run stand between Uthappa and Gambhir for the second wicket

# Robin Uthappa slammed his fifty off 35 balls. This was his 19 IPL half-century

# Uthappa scored 72 off 48 balls to help KKR cruise towards a big total.
